Bowhunting

Anyone on here bowhunt? Any tips or tricks for a new beginner. I really enjoy shooting the bow my aim however is lacking. First attempt resulted in all arrows stuck in my wooden fence instead of the target bag. bow.jpg

HAHA Great idea! I was also thinking maybe if I got a larger target I would have a better chance of hitting it! Lordy I need lots of help! Surprisingly I am much better with a gun.

My husband did it for the deer season last year, and amazingly, playing angry birds while sitting in a tree stand was more interesting than waiting for a deer.

Maybe if he let the deer loose it would have wandered by....... ;> Seriously, I have only hunted with an English longbow and a Hungarian Horsebow, both vastly different than the modern compound so really could not give any good advice. Snarky comments, yes, good advice, not really......

Ashlee, good for you! I'm not a hunter (except for the daily search for the match to my other sock), but I think my brother, Fezz is. If he can't hit it with an arrow, he throws a tomahawk at it !

To give you an idea of how many hunters are in my area, the schools are all closed on the first day of bow season, and we don't even schedule a doctor for that day.

Hopefully you'll get better, and have a blast!

Don't squeeze the hand that holds the bow too tightly. Many noobs do this and it tends to pull the arrows off target. Also try to keep both eyes open at the same time. Hope this helps.

mdeimler thank you!! I think that is the problem. I have a death grip on the bow! Will have to check to see if my eyes are even open at all. Very good suggestions. Thank you!

I am not a hunter myself, however, all of the hunters that I have put into Drivewear LOVE it for the contrast that it provides. Good luck in your endevors.

i used to bowhunt bear here in AK, are you using a traditional recurve or a compound bow? i was crap with my compund until i invested in a good arrow rest, dot sight and a peep sight setup. now i can take off a squirrels head at 50 yeards. for beginners, the peep sight will help you to get consistent shots. you will find yourself resting at the same position when you release the arrow. also a trigger is helpful if you are currently just using your fingers to hold the string. accuracy starts with consistency
