    1.9 glass

I have just come back to dispensing after long break .I had forgotten how challenging and rewarding it is.However with so many variables and products i have had a few slepless nights wondering if i have done the right thing.I had a lady in today
    R -16.00/+0.50 45
    L-15.00/+0.50 125
She was wearing Rodenstock Lentilux in large frame with 75% transmission brown tint/no AR.She chose 50-18oval,vertical measurement 30mm,pd61.Her problem with her present lenses was "the milk bottle effect".I chose 1.9 multi AR 75% trans tint.I calculated edge thick approx 8.5and nasally 4.00. She has always had glass .Do you think she will be happy?should i have gone for something like this Younger lens i read about on the forum .Should i ask lab for edge coat I also read about.I would be grateful for your collective wisdom
    many thanks
    pete

Woman needs a good fitting pair of contact lenses!

If ever done well, glasses will only be to find the bathroom with!

    Contacts are definately an option...

That said, I had a patient a few years back with a very similar rx, and fit her with virtually the same specifications you mention. She was Very happy.

The kicker, was she is a violinist with the Philharmonic orchestra, and needed a sperate pair for 'work', and, well, you can imagine the total $$ involved....

Regardless, I'm sure she'll be happy, but am curious, why not something a weeeee bit smaller, perhaps a 47/8-ish size?

Am also curious: I didn't think HIX glass was 'legal' in the U.S.

    Arrow

Welcome to the board, and just were in the world are you, as it would help us a bit. :)
    Now to basics.
Lentilux? Are they a sort of blended lentic.
A 1.9 index without a AR are you sure, these lenses really benefit from the coating.
As Chip said what about contacts or even high index plastic just from the weight point view, i know they will be thicker but her nose will thank you.

    Hullo,

I dispensed a lady who was 'lucky' enough to be able to wear a childrens 44 eye frame. She went for lantal 1.9 gold e.t with a similar rx, and the result was amazing. Very happy px, I think you've done the right thing but in my case a 59mm pd needed a smaller frame.

We've done some amazing work over the last few years with Glass 1.9 but always with AR
We're lucky in being able to get them worked to 1.0mm CT
BTW John, re-read Pete's message, he says the Pts OLD lenses were without AR.
Rodenstock's Lentilux has been around for many years, it's 1.8 glass and yes, it's a blended lenticular with a very small bowl, if I remember rightly about 25mm and powers up to -23.00.
The carrier has a shallow plus curve to it so it comes out as a knife edge at the side and the CT can be quite thin too.
Again, we used it a lot in the old days when frames were BIG. I wonder if it's still around?

The trick with Full Field 1.9 is to try as hard as you can to dispense a frame that doesn't require more than a couple of mm decentration and get the bevel reasonably close to the front otherwise the Pt. always seems to complain about the "white circle' on the circumference of the lens, and believe me, these high myopes without their correction are able to check with high magnification any problem or defect on the lens.

Thanks for the replies.I did encourage the lady to put in some disposables for frame selection but she was not keen.Is this something you guys do regularly for frame selection?I also often do it for visual fields.

    Wink

Opps, Missed that bit Clive..Pre hoollies rush...
On the note of 1.9 index and the use of small frames, which should be a must due to the weight of the lenses. One of the UK's leading suppliers of glass lenses is now supplying a 70 m/m blank..
