    Cracked ribs

Anybody crack their ribs? How long before you felt "really" good again? Some days are better than others. Been 3 weeks, tomorrow. Sometimes I can barely breathe or move. Maybe quicker if one is younger, I suspect.

I felt off for about 3 months and then tender for another 6 months or so. I don't know if that's the norm though.

There is nothing the medical profession can do for cracked ribs or broken toes. Unfortunately they feel obligated to try and you get a lot of tape and pain killers. Just have a little CC when the pain is too bad and otherwise live with it.

That's what I found out when I cracked a couple when I got tossed off the back end of a jetski at 55 mph and skipped across the lagoon a few times. Really though, all cracked ribs aren't equally as bad, and mine weren't bad. I recovered within a few months.

Two years ago, I bet my neighbor in Montana that I could ride one of his green horse for at least 10 seconds. I actually rode him for about 20 minutes, until he caught me off guard (answering my cell phone) and tossed me into the brush. (He really wasn't as green as the guy had thought)It happened in June, and it's the first time I missed VEW in September. The toughest part was trying to catch my breath! I had to put my left arm over my head to be able to take a deep breath. Sleeping was even tougher. For me, it was a good 6 months before I realized that I was no longer in pain.

I cracked mine about 4 years ago and they will still hurt if I do something wrong.

NOOOOOOO...... the day I think I'm doing better, I get worse. Last week at SEOC was torture. I still did what I needed to do and thank goodness that Warren McDonald was there to help with the Keratometry/slitlamp workshop on Friday. I couldn't have done it without him. I don't like to be a baby, but it hurts.

Keep the ribs taped (wrapped in elastic bandages). It WILL help. My ex-wife cracked 3 ribs when she sneezed while in an off-center position. It took close to 6 months for them to knit. A good part of the problem is that the ribs are thin bone and are constantly moving an flexing every time you breath in and out. I cracked a couple after a fall and the first month was absolute agony.

The seven years is mirrors, not ribs. Ribs should be OK in a few months at most. At least mine were.

Sorry your in pain Diane. Never broke a rib before. Only bone I have broken was a finger. That hurt pretty bad, and it made getting screws out of frames a little tough. Hope you heal up pretty soon!

Good luck! I've broken ribs several times - when I was in my 20s and skiing way too fast, the ribs took about a month to pretty much heal up - in my 50s I fell off my bike while stupidly riding "no hands" and the time to heal extended to almost 4 months.... Just don't catch a cold - coughing is horrible!

Thanks for asking Sharon. The ribs are getting better. I can breathe without so much pain, now. I stopped the rib band last week. I can turn over in bed at night without it waking me up, so I suppose I am on the mend. Bone density is pretty good for an old girl...:)
