Anyone else hooked on Ancestry.com ?

I started out trying to find out more about my father's father's side of the family. My Grandmothers had both traced their line to the Revolution.
My father's grandfather was in Ohio and served in the Civil war but there his ancestry disappeared. But, the maternal line I traced back to before Christ. It turns out my 40th Great Grandfather was Charles Martel , King of France and my 1st cousin 39 times removed was the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne. the ancestry from that line contains so much royalty from England, France , Sweden, finland, Russia, Italy and more. I think it's pretty cool to discover this BUT, going back 40 generations you have had 1 Trillion grandparents. Wikipedia says 50 million Americans, especially those whose ancestry came from around Virginia,have royal blood. And Charlemagne is the most common ancester. It's still pretty cool to think that my 87th Great Grandfather was King of the Cimmerians in Troy in 500 B.C. Anyone else use Ancestry.com ?

Actually, we're all cousins. Everyone in the Western World is descended from Charlemagne, and also Muhhamad, and very likely Confucius.

I'm addicted to ancestor collecting and have been for about 20 years now. I use ancestry.com and the data collections there are wonderful for the convenience. I do get frustrated by the individual trees posted with no reference documentation whatsoever, though. And I've found many errors in their census transcriptions, so y'all be careful there. I've got documented lines back as far as the 1500s and some supposed lines back farther that I can't document yet. It is very fun and addicting to me!

I've been doing our genealogy for years and have also traced our ancestry back to Charlemagne, as well as numerous European Royalty and a couple of Byzantinian Emperors. I am also directly descended from three separate Mayflower passengers, Roger Williams (the Founder of Rhode Island) and Sarah Pease, one of the women sent to jail in the Salem witch trials, is my 8th Great Grandmother.

All of us who are ancestors of Charlemagne can trace our line back by tracing a direct line from my 40 th great grandfather , Charles Martel. His line includes the Merovingians as well as the Carolingians and goes back so far in time that it is not verifiable, to 500 B.C. and beyond. It is pretty well established about the royalty line extending to Troy, way back, to the Trojan War ? Who knows ? Pretty cool to think it's possible to go back that far.
