I started out trying to find out more about my father's father's side of the family. My Grandmothers had both traced their line to the Revolution.
My father's grandfather was in Ohio and served in the Civil war but there his ancestry disappeared. But, the maternal line I traced back to before Christ. It turns out my 40th Great Grandfather was Charles Martel , King of France and my 1st cousin 39 times removed was the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne. the ancestry from that line contains so much royalty from England, France , Sweden, finland, Russia, Italy and more. I think it's pretty cool to discover this BUT, going back 40 generations you have had 1 Trillion grandparents. Wikipedia says 50 million Americans, especially those whose ancestry came from around Virginia, have royal blood. And Charlemagne is the most common ancester. It's still pretty cool to think that my 87th Great Grandfather was King of the Cimmerians in Troy in 500 B.C. Anyone else use Ancestry.com ?
