    New Jersey Eyeglass Standards?

Our lab recently got an account in New Jersey. They keep sending back work for powers they say are not
within NEW JERSEY eyeglass standards? What? We go by ANSI and it's just fine for every other account we
have. Does New Jersey really have eyeglass standards that supercede ANSI and if so, who is the governing body in NJ that issues these standards? When we asked for the standards we got an unofficial looking email of tolerances that anyone could have typed. Are we being fed a line of baloney or do these standards really exist. Someone in NJ help!

The standards any lab must provide are those required by the customer (in this case your N.J. account). Ansi are simply suggestions. If the customer wants zero tolerance, give him zero tolerance. Charge him for whatever it takes for you to maintain his standards.

    See here: http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/ophth/oph_rules.htm

You want the regulations pdf, subchapter 5. And yes, they do appear to be more strict than the current ANSI standards.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

    How reediculous!
The 20 foot exam lane is +0.16D overplussed.
That's the origin of the failure in the tolerance.
    Compounding effect.

hello The answer to your question is yes they do have their own standards. The reason I know is that since starting to work w/Liberty all I have heard about is NJ standards and how great they are and that they are better than ansi.

If they want you to follow them they do need to provide you with them.

No reasonable person needs more than ANSI. If you think they do, what they really need is a better refraction, appropriate to their needs, desires, and utility.
