    Sport Specific Progressive recommendations

I have quite a few patients coming in looking for Sport specific progressives. Do you guys have recommendations on progressives for cycling, running, golf, and tennis. Those sports tend to be the ones in demand and that people are willing to spend a little extra to up their game. suggestions on types or just fitting techniques would be a great help. The office tends to be mostly Enhanced fits, auto2 and individuals these get the job done fairly well but when it comes to specific functions I hope their are better options.

    Thanks

I could never picture anyone wanting to wear a progressive for tennis.

We have a patient who plays golf and swears by Varilux Sport lenses. She gets the brown Santa Ana tint. The lenses come in polar brown and grey and activity specific tints for different sports.

She's bought a few pairs over the years and has been a happy camper.

Other than that I've used Shamir Auto 2 with good results. I tried the Fairway lens for a patient who was a golfer. They are trans polar lenses specific to golfing. He hated them and found the reading too narrow.

Very few sports require near vision except to mark the scores and sign the slip at the bar afterward. Those that require really fast object recognition (tennis, and the like) are probably much better served with single vision.

Agreed, I have a tennis coach who had me put a flattop 4 mm high and that worked perfectly. we started out at 7 mm and that got in the way.

I do wear a progressive for some sports, but tennis and raquetball are not among them. Any ball sport where the ball crosses fields of view (and through the differing zones of a progressive) will be difficult in a progressive. SV is prefered because it will have less image displacement.

In those other sports, use a distance emphasized lens, fit 1mm lower.
