    Drill Mount Frame Lines

    Hi Everyone,

Seems like everyone these days is offering a drill mount frame in their collection. I have the Airlock brand and I have to say, I've worked with it for 3 years now and I am really quite disappointed. Mainly at the fact that the mounts loosen up so easily! It is the only drill mount I have worked with. I asked the rep about it and he said it was probably the lab that wasn't mounting it tight enough. But I have used two local labs and have had the same issue. I wanted to get some feedback on the Airlock and what other brands have been more successful for people or if they use a specific lab for their drill mounts.

    Thanks for the help!

    Welcome to Optiboard!

I gave up on Airbreakalot years ago.

I have had real success with the:

    Kishimoto from Global Optique

    Free Form from Acuity

    Good luck on your search!

    Freeform? Did you say FREEFORM??

Ever since they debuted the collection at the first annual FezzJohns UnExpo, I have been a HUGE fan!

OMG! OMG! OMG! (the "G" stands for gas)

All kidding aside, (actually I wasn't kidding) I've had awesome success with Acuity products, and especially the Freeform collection. My wife gets compliments on her frames on a daily basis, and they are great referral frames. (You should also check out their awesome sports frames)

There are other more expensive drill mounts out there, and I sell many of them, but the Freeform is my favorite.

We do a good bit of silhouette and have had great luck with them. Not exactly cheap, but not terribly expensive. We have patients that bring in frames that are on their 3rd and 4th set of lenses after 5+ years pretty regularly. They're also not hesitant on buying another pair because they know they'll last. Combine em with trivex and you have a crazy light and incredibly durable set of glasses that'll show off what your lab can do!

Tuscany collections aren't too bad either, we sell a good bit of them and rarely have any problems. We have a few other drill mount styles, but they are from other brands and those particular styles just happen to be drill mounts. Silhouette are fantastic in quality. Pricing is mid-range as jpeaslee mentioned.

A man went to an eye specialist to get his eyes tested and asked, "Doctor, will I be able to read after wearing glasses?"
"Yes, of course," said the doctor, "why not!"
"Oh! How nice it would be," said the patient with joy, "I have been illiterate for so long."

FWIW, I've worn Freeform mountings from Acuity since I discovered them at VEW in 2007 and I'm also currently wearing a Tuscany drill mount. Love them both!!

I am trying to find a good drill mount company too so this is very helpful. We use ultralite we used to carry silhouette but the price kept going up. I worked at one place that had the nike airlock and had a lot of problems with them.

Silhouette is awesome for the patient and the optician. They hold up/stay together very well and are easy to fix.
Kawasaki...not so much, especially with higher minus lenses.

I love Silhouette. It's always worth the price.

They have them at varying price ranges from the very standard 3 point to the more elite Line Art and Z-Titan ranges

Silhouette is good but expensive and has quite a breakage!
Kishimoto from Global optics are very good and hold up. Not as many choices but amazing price vs performance ratio!
Talk to Jo you would love him!

I concur. Lindberg is really good. Especially fitted with trivex and some really good instant-bond.

I like Charmant Line Art- the five year warranty on the frame is great news as far as I'm concerned.

I have to say the crappiest line I've ever worked with is Pavi Feather Lite. Absolutely worthless. Well, Airlock runs a close second. I straight up told my rep I thought they were poorly made.

We have not had good luck with Airlock and stopped carrying them. We carry Silhouette and seem to have much better luck with them.
