It is will give the opposite effect so it instead of fixing the vertical diplopia it will make it twice as bad. Definitely send it back.

Thanks. That is what I said, but after getting someone else to quality check them, their response started making me second guess myself.

    Nickel,

I'm guessing you must be an apprentice as opposed to an optician. Let's think of some of the principles of optics. What is prism used for??? To deviate light, move the image. 1^ will deviate ligth 1 cm at 1 meter, so 8^ will deviate light 8 cm at 1 meter. That's a lot. If one is ordering 8^ BU in OD and 8^ BD in OS, if received properly, the light in the right lens will be bend up and the image will be displaced down... Then in the left lens, the light will be bent down and the image will be displace up. The Total difference will be 16^, with the image moved down in the right and up in the left. By receiving it opposite, you can see that the total difference is the same but in the opposite direction. :)

Hahaha. I've seen seasoned opticians make far more grievous mistakes than this.

Assuming that this is a possibility (i.e., uncuts), you would still have to worry about the sphere and cylinder powers being 0.50 D off...

I think obx was talking about flipping each individual lens over, not switching OD for OS. (as long as they aren't de-center too much).

I know it sounds basic, but that is exactly what I was saying.

+2 especially if the lab ticket is computed correctly.

Nickel can you double check the lenses and confirm what you find?

Even I wouldn't admit to that.

Shoot, I would admit it. Were all friends here, while working for a doctor I once edged a pair of semi finished blanks and couldn't believe the lab left them so thick. Once I realized that they were actually unground semi finished blanks I sheepishly had to reorder and tell the lab I needed a new pair. The lab was just as embarassed having sent out semi finished blanks on an order. I still smile whenever I think of that one!!!

When you send it back in tell them you want them to be sober when doing the job.

Is the frame an oval shape that could have had the lenses mounted incorrectly?? Worth checking first.

I was actually an apprentice. The person that double checked it behind me and basically said it would be o.k., is licensed in two other states... They were convinced it would be o.k. then I started thinking," Damn I thought I understood prism very well, maybe I was taught wrong, and have been dispensing wrong." haha LOL I wasn't going to get into a heated discussion with this older Optician, so I just reordered the job and let him go on his way. (he was just filling in for License coverage) thank goodness. :)

So, you're remaking them because you think the 2 state licensed optician is wrong?
