Confused Would LensCrafters be this crafty?

I got my first pair of glasses as a kid in 1993. We ordered glasses with added UV protection. A couple years later, I realized that freckles had been developing all around my eyes, but not elsewhere on my face. The damage was suspiciously where sunlight would pass through the lenses of my glasses. Instead of being protected from UV radiation, my glasses seemed to amplify the problem. But I convinced myself this couldn't possibly be true.

I now work for an OD who has told me about LensCrafters' reputation. On this board, I see the company referred to as evil. Then one post mentioned in passing that they were encouraged by LensCrafters management to sell more A/R coating but not actually order it.

Would LensCrafters really skip out on UV protection for a kid's glasses? And could glasses actually magnify the problem of UV radiation without it?

(I've not mentioned this at work so as not to seem a paranoid nutjob.)

    Thanks

That's ridiculous. Any kid who goes to LC wouldn't get anything other than one of their Featherweight lenses which is made of poly which blocks UV. I doubt that even LC has the ability to strip poly of it's inherit UV blocking ability. It was probably bounce back UV off the backside of your lenses.

You can noy strip UV of poly as it is located in the material, and you can not strip it of a CR49 lens, as once the benzophenone has set in the lens pores and crystallizes and the protection improves over time.

There also was a time when every optical store had at least one UV meter to check and promote UV absorbing lenses. With the newest and latest UV warnings by government more attention should be given to UV protection on glasses, and should be recognized as more important than AR which even provides better transmission of it.

Or someone who wants to start a "discussion" on UV reflection from a lens' back surface.
