I had a guy start popping zits on my mirror. Yes, ON it. I'll give you one guess what his "insurance" was.

Alexander McQueen supra frame is faulty because patient was cleaning glasses with tissue and some of it got stuck at the top between the lens and the cord. Showed it to an "optician" in Spain who says it shouldn't happen. It was a PNX (Hoya's name for phoenix over here) lens which was tightly mounted.

I removed the lens and cleaned out the tissue, but she insists that they are poor quality and she has only paid for the name (for the record, they are very high quality, with wooden sides). She's coming back tomorrow with her husband. Apart from that they were perfect, she even conceded as such, but she hasn't been able to wear them because of the tissue.

    What can you do.

What would the "insurance" that this moron has have anything to do with his uncouth behavior?

Diopter: Medicaid has a lot to do with uncooth behavior. It's one of the reasons many of the "insured" are on it.

The problems with generalizations are usually the people who make them.

The problem with generalizations is that they are generally true, just not always.

Well I've seen a lot of crazy in my optical career but the one incident that sticks out in my mind is the guy who came in for an exam wearing gloves on his head. I could have dealt with this, however, while I was writing up his contact lens order, he unzipped his pants and decided to start pleasuring himself. I ran back to my manager who didn't believe me and told me to go back and finish up the order. His exact words were "You are a big girl, you can handle it". Reluctantly I went back but the Assistant Manager saw it with her own eyes and kicked the guy out. Later, his mom called to pay for his order and I was asked to ship his contacts to an asylumn nearby.

Btw, no state benefits for Mr Happy Hands. I figured someone might ask.

I am still stumped by people who come in with these "off the wall" ideas of how they assume our business runs. I find that any extended "favor" or "courtesy exchange" needs to be spelled out beforehand( how wonderful we are for doing this extremely kind favor in the interest of customer service ESPECIALLY for them). Otherwise, it turns into something like this "give them and inch, and they demand a mile".
But my" favorite" customer will always be the one who came in with charts on how his progressives were supposed to work (like an auto-focus camera) vs. the hour it took me to explain however brilliant that notion is, the REALITY is something different.

I had a woman scream at me that the optician at our other store had ripped her off and obviously not given her a progressive lens because she didn't feel sick while adjusting to her new prescription, didn't see any distortion at the sides of the lenses and couldn't see any obvious "transition lines" from near to far.

What was she wearing? An Auto II (almost all we use). I explained free-form to her and she said that we need to explain that it won't have all the distortion or people will think we're giving them some useless crap.

Took acuities on a snotty teenage patient today who said, "You can't use a Snellen chart on me. I've had it memorized since I was in third grade." So I reversed the slide in the projector and said, "Let's try it backwards." Totally threw her for a loop, so easily, and made my day. Yes, it was THAT kind of day. :)
