Can I ask approx what percentage of jobs have AR in your areas/ countries? Last conference I went to In New Zealand it tends to be about 70-80%, Aussie is supposed to be about 60%

I think it's less in the US but it's getting to be more.
We have one doctor who sends us patients who writes on all his rxs to omit AR. Even if someone has been wearing AR with no issues he will talk them out of it and tell them they don't need it.
One woman had a correction of about - 11 and the doctor told her no AR. So we couldn't use 1.74. She returned and told me everything looked foggy. I added AR, switched her to 1.74 and she loved the glasses.
This discussion reminds me of the polarization debate. Same people who are against polarization seem to be against A/R for some unknown reason. Why don't we all just strap rec specs to each and every patient and call it good.....
Awwww shucks....and I must be conversing with a person who doesn't understand someone just trying to be funny. Rudeness is uncalled for but is so alive and well on this site. For the record, I work for a small independently owned business where we receive ZERO commission. I believe in the product and have ever since technology was able to make it so that it wasn't just a crap coating that looked terrible after a weeks worth of wear. I may not have your experience, I've only been doing this since I was 19 (35 now), but I wouldn't have a pair without AR. Thank you for your opinion, I respect it...but your delivery was lousy. I think it's time for me stay away from optiboard. People who are so nasty ruin it for the rest of us who just want to learn and speak with people in the business about their experiences.
Ok...done venting now.
A man went to an eye specialist to get his eyes tested and asked, "Doctor, will I be able to read after wearing glasses?"
"Yes, of course," said the doctor, "why not!"
"Oh! How nice it would be," said the patient with joy, "I have been illiterate for so long."
Chris, your 30% stat is likely low as this link quotes 25% in 2003, some 9 years ago

Yellow, our goal on a fine quality Teflon is 85% but we usually get around 60%. I shyed away from selling our no-name AR because it came back with bubbles in it etc, but this Teflon is GOOD. The only people I don't offer it to are farmers and mechanics (look at their hands) cuz they're too rough with their specs. No kids, either. Unless the parents really really push for it.
What a nice considerate post.
Chris don't want to chase nobody away. If they leave because of feeling insulted while posting incognito where nobody knows who or what they are, and where they are, I can not even have any guilt feelings.
People should be able to take some criticism from others that disagree with their point of view or know better. Quitters............can't.
if your remover sales are going up that probably means you're using a crappy non glare coat ... i've had none, mid grade, and premium AR and i can tell you right now i notice a HUGE difference ... i wear crizal saphire *insert brand plug here* and i even notice a difference from that to my crizal EZ lenses.
my motto is if i can "remove" it i wont sell it. just sayin :)

I keep track of everything I dispense and compute my averages every month- I have always had at least 80% of eyewear leave my office with Anti-Reflective coatings. At least.

What a messed up statement. I am using no coating whatsoever, I manufacture removing products, used by coaters, labs and also opticians, and there are no AR coatings on the market that can not be removed if one wants to for one reason or another.
With a statement like that I wonder how much your judgement on the quality of an AR coating is worth.
becc971
funny, I NEVER remove ANY of my coatings because like you said, when you're using the good stuff it NEVER needs to be removed! YUP! CRIZAL baby!! NEVER had to remove it!!!
heehee, some people believe all ar coatings can be removed! So, when the remover doesn't work on some lenses you just return the remover for a full credit & the company also will provide replacement lenses for the ones ruined in the failed removal attempt. Now that's good business!
such a messed up post or such a considerate post (haha) or better yet such a nasty little post????
nope, just a challenging what was said.

Again Chris, you have told us so many times about the demand for AR Stripper.
Those of us who sell the top quality AR, do not have demand for that product.
Would you agree that alone shows the difference?
Some folks will just never get it!!
And HEY, STOP picking on everybody & being mean & hateful!
poor shannon & becc971 & ..................many others!

Wow! way to skew a poll! how about, no, because it's a bad practice. I don't tint their old non-ar lenses for a patient because THATS a bad practice too! with the scratches sucking up the tint and standing out like a sore thumb after you tint them, I have never had a patient say they were satisfied with the results. I'm assuming you're selling something.
also in regards to stripping ar

I think I have stripped an AR coating about a dozen times in the last ten years.
The most important thing for me is letting them know that there is NO GUARANTEE of any kind that it will work.
If it does (about 90% of the time) then you are the good guy...
I don't think about it as a sale, money, or anything but a goodwill gesture.
Since poly is so prevalent these days you cannot really expect to strip the AR and, "make them in to sunglasses..."
I use glass etching compound which does not seem to be particularly harmful to me. As I understand it that strips ALL the coatings off (scratch included) so you now have an AR free lens that is bound to scratch up within a year at best.
