    Confused Previous Panamic Wearers

Ok, so I'm a bit shocked there are not more threads about patients who have previously worn Varilux Panamic with success and now the time has come for new specs...

Now that Panamic has been discontinued, I have found many myopes seem happy with any good quality soft progressive such as Creation, Autograph II, Seiko Supercede, etc, however presbyopic hyperopes seem to be very difficult to take out of Panamic. What has worked well for you guys?

I'd love to hear everyone's feedback on this one!

My all time favorite first choice for presbyopic hyperopes is Hoya ID. It's worked for me transitioning people out of Panamic or the old Comfort you can't get anymore.

Taking a myope out of the Panamic is almost always an ugrade. :)

Fitting hyperopes can be a challenging, but in general, they prefer less dynamic designs, with a slightly longer corridor, slightly wider intermediate and near zone widths, and flatter BCs to reduce magnification. However, there's still going to be some (likely significant) degree of adaptation no matter what lens design we use, unless there is no change in Rx. Typically, we'll be seeing a hyperopic shift and several bumps in add power, from emmetropia to possibly full-time multifocal eyeglasses, all within a ten year window from age 40 to age 50. Insignificant in the big scheme of things, but folks still find it disturbing to be "falling apart" a such an early age, and we have to deal with that, as well as provide a first-rate optical solution.
