eyechart in direct or mirrored mode

Is it better to run eyechart software in direct or mirrored mode? Which mode would give a more accurate result? I am using eyechart software from www.meyeapps.com and it allows to do both. The company recommeds mirrorred mode as most offices set it up that way.

I don't know about "better" but the mirrored mode allows for a longer distance (and shorter exam rooms).

If at all possible you would want the longest room available and a direct view of the chart. The mirror mode inverts the image so that it appears normal after reflecting in a mirror. It would be preferable to have a direct view of 15 feet than a mirrored view of 20. Optically there are light cues that trigger accommodation if there are objects in the vicinity of the eyechart that are less than the distance of the chart itself. This is particularly so for hyperopes. The worst setup is to be in a very small room that bounces the image twice to provide 20 feet of optical distance to the chart. That would greatly increase the chance of over accomodation.

I tried it both ways and it does't seem to make any difference to my patients. I just have to say is that it is a world difference from the old projector which I am so happy to get rid of. I guess it's safer for me to use mirror mode for consistency because my patients have been examed with the old bulb projector.
