Which high index lenses would you recommend?

I just returned from Lenscrafters where I got pricing and lens options for a new pair of glasses. I wear contact lenses all day, every day and I'm looking to give my eyes a break from them. My prescription is : -7.00 -3.00 x 015 -8.50 -2.25 x 005 so the gentleman suggested high index lenses. The frames I chose were about $160. My total with 1.74 lenses and anti-reflective coating was over $700. Yikes. Between 1.6, 1.67, and 1.74 which would be best considering my rx? Are these prices average or should I shop around some more? I was thinking of checking at my local BJ's Wholesale Club. I also work for an ophthalmologist who says he will perform LASIK at no cost to me but I think there is still a treatment fee. I'm not sure whether or not I should pay for that and then possibly have to buy glasses afterwards or just bite the bullet and get a new pair to last me for a few years. Any suggestions? :/

You work for an MD and you don't know any reputable opticians? If that's truly the case, I would spend the $700 at Lenscrafters.

Taking your Rx to a wholesale club would be like taking a Lamborghini to WalMart for an oil change. Sure, they could probably do it, but would you want them to?

(All this is assuming you really work for an MD, and are not a consumer.)

I think you should find a reputable Independent optician and ask for their advice. This question really cannot be answered at an on-line forum, there are tooo many variables.

What makes you think Lenscrafters can do a better job on your glasses than BJ's?

Well, BJ's was unable to fill my prescription because it was too strong. I almost went back to Lenscrafters but decided to stop by my local Wal-Mart first. I ordered a pair of glasses with HI 1.67 lenses from Zeiss and my total, with polishing, was just over $260. I'm so glad I shopped around.

Let us know how you feel about the quality and fit of the eyewear once you receive them.

LC was probably trying to put you in the digitally surfaced lens, while Wal-Mart is at least putting you in high-index (which will serve the purpose). I can only assume that you asked questions and were informed as to the difference between the two...

I am so tired of being the "bad cop".
