Competition for Coastal Contacts on the Horizon?

It seems as though another Canadian West Coast based on-line optical company is about to set up shop in BC as they are looking for a North American based programmer to complete their e-commerce web site. (UTC-08 Canada is universal time zone for BC)

Job Description
There is a lot of customization involved with this especially in the back end. We have attempted to work with another fellow and it is proven to be to much for him. We need a GURU(s) in every sense of the word in PHP, MySQL when it comes to Oscommerce or another shopping cart platform.

Frames and Lenses are two seperate but "very complex" products with alot of attributes for each product type. Lenses more so than frames. Frames and Lenses are products which will need to be linked together in the front end by the customer to create prescription eye glasses.

There are many lens manufacturers
There are many sunglass lens manufacturers
There are many frame manufacturers
There are many sunglassmanufacturers

So there needs to be a way to link Frame/Sunglass Frame manufacturers to specific Lens/Sunglass Lens manufacturers so that in the front end when a customer chooses a frame they will be asked for there prescription and what type of lenses they want then they will presented with the lenses types of the manufacturers that are associated with the frame.

I woudl like to get the contact lens portion of the site up and running fairly quickly as these are simple products and dont not take long at all.

Correct, to complete the programming and get the lenses/frames to connect together as on order and be transferred to the cart for checkout.

Vendor Collusion.....................That could be a natural at this stage. The Province of BC would also be the place to be for anybody in North America. A mail order house with no restrictions.


That is a new startup, and depend largely on funding for a popularity contest. Websites do not get popular by just offering cheap prices it does actually need a lot more. Needed search engine support can be reached by a lot of work, time and knowhow or by having the funds to pay for it.

So even if the website is ready to go on-line it will be a good while until the consumers will notice it. Exception could be if they have the needed financial backing.

You would need to find out who placed the ads and take it from there.

This could also be another coastal angle. If they see the writing on the wall as they lose juristiction in province after province they will need to hire Optician to dispense. I heard they will also be developing kiosts to web sale and depense. I have no problem with that as they will then encounter the Bricks and morter costs and will have to raise their prices to pay for their locations and Opticians. If we all play by the same rules we all can compete.
