Which Santinelli blocker recommended starting out

I am new to edging and will be adding a LE1000 edger and want to add the ME 1200 edger in a year or two if busy enough. I was considering the Mini plus and the ICE 1000, was told the ICE 900 is not available or worth it. But, I hear about a new wrap tracer from Santinelli. My staff are not experienced edgers, I am wanting a simple and easy to train blocker, but one I can use for drill mount and wrap frames for the ME1200. I am a newbie so scratching my head trying to figure it out it. It will be installed within the next two weeks. Is it best to hold out till Summer which is when I hear the new tracer will be available? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The Santinelli wrap tracer has no screen or blocking device at present, and so must be partnered with a conventional blocker/tracer to be of any use.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply Barry, what do you think of the ICE 1000? I don't have to worry about waiting for the wrap tracer then.

I have an ICE1000, and, IMHO, it is the only way to go.

    +1 for the ICE-1000
Very easy to use, and has never given us any trouble.

Go with the Ice-1000 for a new staff; my 1200 is being installed today and we love it after having a me-1000 for 7+ years. We are keeping our old blocker- prior to the ice-1000- and getting the wrap tracer in the fall when it is released.
The equipment is the best overall and after 5 years you know it was the correct decision.

+2 for the ice1000 blocker!!! We have been using our ICE1000 blocker for 4+ years coupled with an ME1000 Design+ in our Laboratory with only one recorded fault since new! No brainer! I think a second hand ME1000Design+ is better than an LE1000. This will allow you the ability for Wraps immediately due to the special wheel package and software. It has the ability to vary bevel height/size/position making it ideal for Wraps! (It does this using a large 2-part 'V' and edging Bevel Front then Rear seperately). Not aware LE's have this facility! Had ME1200 on demo but felt more verticle angle adjustment and speed required on step-bevel feature.

Will be getting the ICE 1000, greatly appreciate making me feel better about the decision to get it. I would get the ME1000 if I could find a second hand one but I have not seen any except one that went a month ago here. No one wants to get rid of there ME1000

I must STRONGLY recommend you consider upgrade to ME1200. Regardless of what you *think* you will/can do, this, IMHO, is the ONLY way to go. Negotiate the Chemetrie software, do these clips, and the profit will pay for your edger.

I must agree with Barry on this. An 'ME' variant will be a much better investment over 3 years. I wouldn't be without mine!

I really like what the ME1200 and ME1000 can do, but to keep the start up cost down will start with the LE1000 and when I find a second hand ME1000 or ME1200 will get it or just buy a new ME1200 w/chemistrie I was skeptical of the chemistrie clip on's I did not know if the magnets would bother people. What is your impression of them? Sounds like you like them.

The Lex can do Chemestrie too. I wouldn't be without them. I *do* pay for my ME1200 every month and more with them.

How many jobs a day do you think I will be able to run on the LE1000 with the ICE 1000? I don't know what to expect. I heard about 20 a day.

Do not get the LEX and go for the ME-1200, trust us it is worth the difference and in five years it will not matter! The reason you do not find old ME's for sale is they are amazing and not worth selling for the most part! Most people buy a new one and keep the old one as well, we had no room or need to 2 machines.
You would not go cheaper on the refracting equipment, do not try to save money as it will make you more money than any refracting equipment.

Is the advanced step bevel mostly used for sports goggles and sunglasses?

I'll play devil's advocate, You sure you need these features for people who can't block?

The reason for the higher end blocker is b/c I plan on upgrading or adding the ME1200 or ME1000 otherwise I probably would have went with the mini plus. The techs are already experience opticians and know how to use a manual lensometer I don't think it would be much more difficult to train two of them on edging, and we have two other employees that have worked in labs previously so that should help.

Q: What does manual lensometry skill have to do with advanced edgingn skills?
