Question Suggestions on lenses for difficult prescription and extreme myopia

    Good afternoon!

I have a customer who has been receiving conflicting information on what type of lenses would be best for his prescription. Hes not the best-off financially, and trying to make the most of what he can afford, but his prescription is strong which doesn't allow for certain options.

    SPH OD: -17.50 OS: -16.00CYL OD: + 4.00 OS: + 2.50
    Axis: OD: 100 OS: 85
    ADD: +1.50

If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them because I'm torn between extremely thick to keep costs down, or thinner, but risking quality due to price restrictions.

    Thanks!

This is honestly not a simple situation that has an internet answer. There are so many variables you really need to discuss this with an in person eye care pro.

I was going to say 1.90 glass, but maybe I should just be quiet.

I just got a 1.9 Zeiss back from the lab for a -20.00. They break and I replace them. No problem for me :) I'll take a pic tomorrow. This job is about as perfect as you can get.

Yeah, we should be quiet about this; some consumer will read it, not be aware that these things shatter easily, are inherently unsafe, order some from some onliner who couldn't care less, and suffer for it. I wouldn't care to say anything here that I wouldn't say face to face to one of my own patients.

I get most of mine directly from China. I don't know why you thought it was illegal, it's made by X-cel and Vision-ese.

Nice. I used to get Zeiss 1.90 from a lab in Virginia as recently as about ten years ago. The CTs were, depending on the power, .9mm to 1.1mm, total power in any merdian was max -20.00 D, no tempering, and the client and OMD had to sign waivers.

As horrible as it is, one of the lens replacements I had to do was after she and her husband were in a car accident. Her husband passed away as a result. She had to undergo months of physical therapy. Frame was ok with a couple nicks and the lens cracked.

I was only able to get from Zeiss and they stopped many years ago in the US; How high an index can you get?

Been spelling it that way all my life. I grew up in Cananada, maybe that's the reason.
