    Thumbs up Good movies

What do we like as optical people?

I love SYFY. How about you? I just saw John Carter. It was kinda weak. Last night we watch Our Darkest Hour. It was good.

I'm the weird one. I like musicals. It's because I'm a theatre major.

I feel old... I always thought it was SciFi but you kids today are ruining the King's English (which I also do- especially before spellcheck).

There are so many great movies but I lean towards comedy. Stranded on a desert island I'd choose- Some Like it Hot and an old Tony Curtis Jack Lemon and Natalie Woods film The Great Race.

My favorite, "The Wake of the Red Witch."

Haven't seen John Carter but I have read all of Burrow's books on same as well as all of his other books.

Wow! My taste in movies is remarkably similar to Fezz'. That's disturbing.

I'm married to one of few women who actually likes the Stooges. I hope it's not another waste of time.

Submitted for your consideration, W.C. Fields "Your're Telling Me".

There's something shy and courtly in Fields here. Great comics have auras of solitude, which is why we love them; we see something in them that reflects our own lonlieness, our sense of being outsiders. In Fields' truculent glare, we see the face we'd love to show the world--to everyone who forces to get out of bed and go to work, or who gets between us and our next meal. On the train scenes though, Fields's suspicions drop. He finds a kind of companionship with someone smart enough to know what trouble it is to live. And that's the soul of this quick, smooth, good-looking and little known comedy.

C.S. Lewis promoted the term Scientifiction. I like it! Alas, he was overruled.

I am watching "We Are Marshall" right now, in honor of my friend Mark. FYI, it's on TNT.

I remember him posting about the accident somewhere on OB. Do you remember his connection to it? I know that he grew up in the next town over from it.

One of my favorites is Midway. If you haven't seen it, do so. If you don't understand it, read a history book .

I love thrillers, Disney classics, and indie movies. My all time favorite movie is Labyrinth. I could really watch anything though. I am the same way with books too. That being said, I LOOOVE The Hunger Games!

I seem to rememer a conversation during the last un-Expo out in the gazebo. Many of those lost in the crash were his friends.

My favorite all-time movie is Casablanca, followed by The Godfather and the three Lord of the Rings movies.

As for war movies, The Longest Day is awesome. It also has a special meaning for me. If you've seen it, you may remember the Airborne division that was dropped behind enemy lines before D-Day with the mission to hold a town and bridge so the Germans could not bring in reinforcements (remember Red Buttons got his parachute caught in the steeple while all the fighting was going on below.) My Uncle Bob was in that division and was one of the men that help that town and prevented the Germans from moving in.

He and the others in the 82nd Airborne Division were awarded the French Fourragères by the French for their bravery and heroism.

I vote for Casablanca as well. I enjoy old musicals and the other classics like Gone With the Wind, A Star is Born (the one with Judy Garland) and many more of that era. We watched the Swedish productions of the Steig Larsson trio and loved them, sub-titles and all.
I watch The Great Escape because my Grandfather was a technical advisor on it.
