    Recommendations for high plus bifocal?

Got a patient who uses a +12.00 bifocal in combination with contacts. Thoughts on best solutions?

Not sure if you mean a +12.00 add over the CLs, or a +12.00 distance Rx and the client needs eyeglasses as a backup to the CLs. If the latter, see...

As noted by Fezz, there may be other solutions available. However, I would be cautious with using super high index materials at this power (CA issues). Some labs have had success surfacing the Super Mod/cr39 on a free-form generator (Quest?). That might be the best solution if the goal is the best possible vision (assuming optimal positioning in front of the eyes).

    Hope this helps,

As I stated reguarding high minus question. Remember that the patient will have only limited peripheral acuity no matter what you do or the size of the lens. Also you will have a ring scotoma with high plus lenses. So something with a small bowl if possible will be visually just as effective as a large lens. If patient is a successfull contact lenses wearer with a good fit, he is only going to use them to find the bathroom and his contact lenses. If patient has a poor fit in his contacts he may wear them go get some relief but warn him that his acuity will not compare to his contacts.
