    Looking for Younger PLS

As the title suggests, I'm seeking what used to be called a Younger PLS (Protective Lens Series) plano blank for a patient with RP, but any brand would do. Do any of you ever access these lenses? If so, where are you getting them from? The patient needs a 533 or a 553. Thanks.

Try to borrow a trial set of Corning CPF lenses from a local lab. Have the patient try various filters indoors and outdoors to see what works best if at all. CPF are premium glass lenses which used to go for about $500 pr with photo-chromatic costing more. Worth if for an improvement in the quality of life. They are effective for patients with different photo sensitivities. I have had success with clients that have had albinism. You can Google Corning CPF for more information.

I've looked into the Corning lenses before, but it'd be ideal if I could find something in plastic.

I believe that the Corning CPF lenses are the leaders in this area of low vision aids. I also remember that BPI offers tinting solutions for plastic lenses that make similar claims. I have never used this product but I do have some skepticism about their claims. Perhaps other posters can verify the effectiveness of their tints..

Winchester optical in Corning New York manufacture the CPF series, they are not expensive, only glass CPF 527 or 511 are the most frequently used. I have used them for 30 years now as a low vision specialist. They are unique and a trial set is about $100, Plano uncuts for clip-ons are cheap. like $30 or so. They ship to Canada no problem. Centennial also distribute but add a markup.

Thank you Peter! I'll contact them Monday. As a low vision specialist, do you find your RP patients using more of the 533 or the 553?

CPF 550S (4%-18%) was developed specifically for rod cone degenerative disease (Classic RP) but many prefer CPF 527 (7%-22%) here in the north. are you in estevan sask? All CPF are photochromic

Thanks for the more up to date and accurate information as well as a great source on a supplier. This has been one of the more useful posts that I have read. When we share information like this it helps us to stand out as professionals and separates us from the internet dispensers and volume discounters.

I am in Estevan, yes. Centennial is a distributor we currently use so I've looked at their samples, but the Winchester idea is still looking good. Haven't had a chance to contact them yet, but if they're less expensive and have no start up fees or minimums, I'll very likely go with their Corning lenses.

I went with the 527 as per your recommend, Peter. The lenses look really good. Patient picks them up tomorrow, we'll see how he does with them.
