I am going through an optician training course through Penn Foster Career School, finished the glasses section in the program and decided to take the ABO exam to see where I was at with the information. I happened to pass the exam with flying colors (which I have been told is an awesome honor having no experience). I love my job.

If times were the same, I definitely would go into this field again. Today, I would really have to think about it. I will say, the ONLY way I would go into the field is if I attended a program, and I planned on working for myself.

No, not at all!

I said I love my job, and to get as much formal education as you can before you get into the field.

Take the path, but know why you are taking it.

In this business you will always have a job. You may have to pull up the family and move to another part of the country to find that job....thats hard to do when the pay is not all that great so if you are to be the primary bread winner for the house I say keep looking.

If your looking to open your own business partner up with someone who can wright the Rx's. Both of you need to have money vested in the business to make a serious go of it. I will say it again partner up with someone who can wright the Rx's if you dont you are swiming upstream all the time.

The large chains and box stores make it hard to sell at a competive price so focus on personal service.
