    Confused Coating failures

Just a thought on SRC and AR coating failures:
Could stress, little things like .10 mm oversize or a touch too much A or B putting stress on lenses, especially higher indexes and more flexible materials, be putting stress on the hard coatings. AR coatings are hard too. Then lens flexure, or time or whatever be causing increased coating failures.
Could modern tracer shape/sizing be causing tiny imperfections in shape/size be leaving just enough stress to cause failure over time?

    Your thoughts, please.

Two thoughts: 1) Cheap edgers might be an issue, but it's more likely to be cheap edger operators that would be the cause.
    2) SI02............unforgiving in flex, and heat.

I think coating failures are more likely to be the fault of too much stress placed on the center of the lens during edging,... and cutting with dull wheels or blades.

Definately. Many tracers are crushing the frame, shortening the "B". This makes the edger operator think the lens is to size, when it's actually too big, thereby flexing the lens.

The preparation of the surface is the key and we do 99% AR and have almost no issues! It is the ar process that makes the difference.
