Since Hotels are so expensive, where should people stay in NY? Or where should they not?

    Marriott Marquis on Times Square.

It's where I'm staying for $15.00. Ownership has it's privileges.

Easy, pay all bills for office with the Marriott Rewards card. Cash in points for room. Same with airfare. Total trip costs $30 for the wife and I to travel and stay. Food is easy too Follow Johns around and find all the vendors having parties.

I pay all my bills w/my Capital One and get the cash back. When I travel, I bill the office for my hotel, that way, I can write it off. Why not use "points" for a vacation, instead of work? Or, better yet, get the cash, and use it for whatever you want?

I'm going cheap...Holiday Inn Express, .8 miles from JJ, free breakfast, late check-out, $189 per night. No bargains here! Give me Vegas any day of the week for value + fun.

When I go to VEW, it feels like a vacation. When I get back from VEE, I'm ready for a vacation.

The reality is I'm burning off points. Even after this trip I have enough to cover a later flight to AZ for the wife and I. I'll be rolling VEW and the opticians convention later this year too.

My favorite NY hotel (B&B actually) is The Inn On 23rd - West 23rd, a short cab ride to the show.

I'm cheap, so I go out a little way from the city. I stayed in a Marriott in Stamford, Ct for something like $80/night (book it through Priceline). The room was good, and it's close to the commuter train line or about half an hour to a parking lot in Manhattan.

Drapes???? When you're at the show all day,and then partying until 3:30 (at least that's when I left you guys) in the AM...when do you have time to play with the drapes?

Funny, I really didn't know that they were remote control, and went to pull them shut. A small tug, and all of a sudden, motor noise, and voila, they closed by them selves. Thought that it might be another nightmare caused by those Marchon drink bracelets.

Was it really 3:30? In the morning? James said it was somewhere around 9 or 9:30, and that you are not to be trusted at all in Vegas, as bad things happen around you.

PS. Any idea where my 500 bucks went at the Flamingo? I had it one minute, and poof....

I'm staying at the Marriot Marquis. The boat is from Weehawken. I'm taking the CHINATOWN bus from South station for $15.00. I grew up in Jersey City. There are new hotels downtown and the PATH will let you off at 33rd St, a medium walk to Javits. While you're walking there stop off at one of those ethnic restaurants on 9th Ave for some neat cheap eats.
    Money carefully refunded

That's right the place is Weehawken, but do you remember the name of the hotel? It was a nice hotel with a very good affordable price. The onely problem I had back then was that the boats did not run to late at night.I am staying at the Marriot Marquis this time.

The Hilton Garden Inn. I stayed at the one in Chelsea. It was a bit pricey but quiet (in the floral district) with plenty of cheap cafes and was in walking distance.

Also when I took the shuttle to the wrong hotel because I assumed there was only one Hilton Garden Inn in NYC they comped my cabfare back to the correct hotel.

I wish I was going this year, but I'm going to be in New Orleans on vacation.

If you plan to book using Vision Expo's service, make sure you do it by March 1st at http://visionexpoeast.com/Travel/Hotel-Discounts/. I personally like staying at Kimpton properties when I'm by myself. They're cool but small. I also stay out of midtown and head just a bit downtown if I can.

One of the additions I really enjoyed at the VEW was the smartphone app that helped you locate the booths. I was able to see many more vendors since I did not have to spend all day trying to locate them. Where is the app for VEE? Am I missing it? They had an online "show planner" with a map, but it was pretty lame, and not even interactive.

Has anyone seen one for VEE?
