    Red Sore Eyes Query

    Hi,

I had a a lady come in complaining of red sore painful eyes and visible red veins on the sclera and slightly protruding right eye. This patient had nose surgery around 6 months ago and also was on accutane for around 6 months also and has been off it for 7 months. Shes also had a sinus infection which is more or less cleared apart from the eye issue. Shes been prescribed chloramphenicol eye drops which helped a lot, but was then given fuscithalmic eye drops which havent worked as the infection keeps coming back. Its not yet been established if it was the accutane or surgery affecting her eyes and she also has eye pain, esp on the lids around the eye (inner bits) and the skin near the nose. She mainly has sore eye skin on waking up in the mornings. Any ideas as to what one can prescribe for the condition and if it will go away with treatment and/or any other advice?

Obviously no one can 'prescribe' a treatment based on a web post. You need to refer her to a Medical Doctor.

We should first recognize the symptoms of sore eyes at an early stage because it is a contagious eye infection. There are different causes of this particular infection; it could be from dryness, allergy or sometimes too much exposure to the computer or television. But if you are clueless of her sore eyes, then she must consult it with the expert.

Redhot Jumper Infections should be checked by a specialist..........................

Infections should be checked by a specialist, specially when they occur after surgery which can be a common occurence. I have expirienced and still do get the odd problem after an 7 hour heart surgery 21 month ago. Full recuperation can take its time and the body is more sensitive to attack of one type or another.

This is why God created Ophthalmologists. The "slightly protruding eye" seems like it could stand to be looked at about 15 minites after it was first noticed.

Any post surgical infection (or possible infection) should be treated with utmost urgency, by an Opthalmologist who can perscribe systemic antibotics if necessary.
