Union optical workers walked off the job after a union meeting on Sunday January 22 2012. At an impass with Davis Vision management the optical workers decided they had been taken advantage of long enough. This comes after months of contract negotiations between Local 408 and Davis Vision. A small percentage of workers reported monday for work but the vast majority are out on strike. This may increase turn around times for your orders from Davis.

Yes it is sad but that a company owned by Highmark would cut its associates pay drastically in order to try and do even more work! They changed the incentive program at Davis and in doing so raped the associates pay by as much as 5-700 dollars every two weeks. These are the workers who arrive at work at 6am till around 330 pm everyday including Saturday from January til May. The same associates who work at a break neck pace to get 5000 jobs a day. They waited until just before Christmas to reduce paychecks I can only guess to give the executives thier bonuses. Base pay rates at Davis are very low even for experienced associates generally between 9 and 12 dollars an hour. The incentive was the biggest part of thier pay. This job is not for everyone do to the pace and hours they have to work. The company says these new incentive guidelines will improve quality! If doing 80-100 jobs in an hour on a 5 man finish team increases quality well I don't know what do you think. This is the very reason all these post on this website knock Davis Vision quality because Davis cares about one thing quanity not quality! The associates have asked them to lower not raise quotos so they may put out a better quality product but the company has spoke. Apparently now the associates have spoken as well by calling a strike. If they are breaking the union contract the employees have every right to strike and more power to them. Wouldn't all of the Davis labs be under the same contract?
