    WANTED: Houston's Top Gun Optician

    Ok folks;

    An opportunity like this happens once, when lucky, in one's career: Optician at a multi-location OMD/OD practice In NW Houston. 9-5 Monday though Friday. We take no optical insurance, nor Medicare. The doctors leave you alone, don't micro-manage. You are the ophthalmic lens expert, respected.

    The optical tries to carry products for all our demographics but are mostly boutique, rimless, with some custom, one of a kind lens designs. No Lux or Saf. You'll be dealing at times with some challenging RX's. Fresnel to iseikonic's. Roomy lab with an extra sound proof ( glass door ) room for light edging. We pride ourselves on service and knowledge.

    Requirements;

    * ABOC-AC or ABOM preferred. Will consider ABOC that plans to obtain advanced. (We'll help)

    * 10 years minimum experience.

    * VERY outgoing and personable.

    * Familiar with high-end, multi pair sales.

    We offer;

    * Above average pay! ( better than competitive!)

    * 401k, partial matching.

    * 75% of health insurance costs.

    * All Assn. and CE dues paid.

    * 2 weeks vacation.

    * A great work environment. If it ain't fun, I don't do it! All the staff is really fantastic.

    * The nicest manager that you'll ever work for!

    I've done this 37 years people, it don't get better than here for an optician. Great pay, easy pace, respect, fun! Lots of optical challenges. It's very rewarding here. All I can tell you is that I'm not leaving unless moved out by force. I'm gonna be picky, because I can. I hope, if you got the goods, you'll PM me here for more details.

    Will there be any actual shooting involved? Does a Top Gun need to provide his (or her) own handgun?

    I know, you've always wanted to be a cowboy. Sure, you can wear boots, but only the boss gets to wear spurs!

    And yes, we provide you with a gun, holster and poncho. You'll need it at the dispensing table for warranty "negotiations".

    If I can get a new Kimber( and a custom holster), I'll take the job. I don't care about the boots, as I were boat shoes anyway.

    Odd, this actually sounds like one of the best retail positions I've seen come available. Did you try the associations? Post on Monster, Indeed, etc?

    Johns, you and your cowboy boots start tomorrow. ( But please, don't bring the stick pony in with you again! And yes, we'll all call you "Tex" from now on...)

    Thank you Mister Bossman! You won't have to worry about a thing! No sir...no stick pony, just my cowboy boots, my Texan hat, and my PD stick! I can't wait for you to teach me how to do the "quick draw" from the hip with the PD stick!

    Yes sirrreee! You have made me one happy guy! In fact I'm going to be the best durned optician you ever did hire! Just to make a good first impression, I spent the entire afternoon hanging out at Starbucks, watching them brew coffee, so that when you ask me to run and get your coffee in the morning, I'll be able to make it special...just like they do!

    Oh, and while we're talking about coffee, since I never had a "formal" like interview, I wasn't sure what time I shoul take my breaks. At my old job, I got there at 9:00, and took a smoke break at 9:15, a coffee break at 9:30, a check the weather break at 10:00. Around 10:15, I'd go down to the breakroom and start to warm up my snack, which was usually ready around 10:30. I'd finish my snack around 11:00, and start to clean up the dispensary so it would be nice and neat while I was at lunch. I'd usually take my lunch from 11:30 until 12:30, and then I'd go buy my lottery tickets and run a few errands. I was always back by 2:00 SHARP! Usually, I'd be a little sluggish after lunch, so after my afternoon smoke break, I might go for a short walk, just to clear my head. We often had a 2:30 rush of customers, so I knew I'd be back by 3:00 to help out, before I had my afternoon coffee break. I really needed the coffee break to settle my nerves, because the people I worked with were really lazy, and left EVERYTHING for me to do. Around 3:00, I'd go through the mail before I'd go down to the break room to mix myself a banana smoothie, and then I'd clean out the coffee machine and get it ready for the next day. Around 4:00, I'd start pushing all the chairs in, straightening the chairs, and if there were any patients lingering around, I'd make it a point to let them know that we closed promptly at 5:00, and they had to be out by 4:45. Of course, most people would probably take one last smoke break, but since I never did, I figured it would be OK if I left at 4:45.

    If it's alright with you, I'd like to keep the same schedule that I had at my last job, so it doesn't throw off my routine.

    Oh...And I was just kidding about that "Bad Boss" thing in the last post! (he-he) I'm sure you're the nicest, bestest boss there ever was!
