I got a pair and they are slightly darker than Xtractives and have no polarization in the clear state, but as soon as they darken the polarization is effective. They do not get that dark, but they are effective and we tested them on a cool afternoon with alot of sun. They are a nice niche product and will not change the world, but will offer another tool in the belt!
    We now offer:
Clear, reg trans, trans xtra, clear polarized, transitions polarized or plain old polarized!

Craig--Do you mind me asking if you tried them inside a car?

:( So they aren't clear inside? If they are darker then transition extra then I don't think my husband would be interested.

I am sure they will not work in the car, my store is all windows and it did not change at all inside.

We will do very well with this product once it hits the street.

My "sources" tell me that even in the activated state (the darkest possible) that the effective "polarization" is 77%, compared to 99.5 in a gray or brown polar.

The Transition rep came in today and I asked about the new Transition polarized lenses. He was surprised I knew about them and he was even more surprised when I knew they were called Vantage.

    Love Optiboard!

It's amazing how poor the lens companies sometimes are at disseminating new product information down the chain. I still have to convince my labs that the Seiko 1.74 Transitions lenses exist, and that's 2-year-old tech.

Not at all a disadvantage. Oakley "OO" iridium decrease polarization efficiency to help with all those digital devices we luv to use.

*Still* means they don't take the place of a proper, full-coverage sunglass.

    Advantage: "Vantage"

I think he means they are darker unactivated and lighter when at their darkest.

So does Vantage work like Xactive and darken slightly in a car?

This is going to be a great niche and allow me to gain new customers. We do 30% of our polarized sales are already transitions polarized NXT so this should have an even larger market potential!
This should take a few months to get to the chains.

It was officially launched at Transitions Academy. I am so proud that the technology has evolved to this point. I think about all new products as they are launched and it just shows that this is a wonderful industry and will continue to evolve. Transitions does a wonderful job of R&D and educating the consumer. This new product will only add to our toolbelt of great product offerings. Will it continue to evolve. You betcha...:) I'm going to go order mine now.

I know we can't talk prices, but can anyone say if there is a significant price difference between the vantage and the regular transitions?

I tried to get a demo pair mounted at our lab (they sent back a clear lens on one side and polarized gray on the other). When I called and clarified they said they had just heard of it. Don't know when it will actually be released, (athough the been told February) or what the cost will be.

Is the stuff out there or not?

I have no idea how they work, but picture them imbibing the photochromic molecule onto a clear filter. When the molecule is light, no transmission ergo no polarization. When the molecule darkens, voila.

Again, the only analogy I got is the idea of clear vertical blinds vs. opaque vertical blinds. Now envision photochromic vertical blinds.

Our transitions rep was in today. She knew less than I did about this lens and I was disappointed! Thanks Optiboard for the information.

May 1 Launch. Labs will probably get info out after March. Good looking product, saw a demo today. Impressed that even when it was almost back to neutral state, it still had a small amount of polorized state. My old UV light couldn't activate it completely though. Gonna have to look at getting that updated.
