    Insurance Direct Billing

    Hi,

Does anyone know what insurance companies allow direct billing for eyeglasses? We are currently set up with GreenShield and this makes our customers lives easier when they don't have to pay upfront.

    Thank you.

Short answer....NO!............and moving quickly away from any incentives to do so.

Dealing with any third party payers in Canada is a nightmare.

Thanks for the response, I don't quite understand your point. No there arent any other insurance companies that allow direct billing? or you personally don't like dealing with them, please clarify.
Ive seen some stores advertise " We accept Insurance" anyone know how they work this?

    Thank you

Great West Life, through Telus Solutions and Medavie (formerly Blue Cross) both use web portals for some of their clients claims.
IHF Govt funding for refugee/ immigrants is also moving to electronic billing. There's probably more.

Blue Jumper Insurance companies at 100% are all cheap when it gets to paying.....................

Never forget...........Insurance companies at 100% are all cheap when it gets to paying. Once they smell the odor of the on-line opticals one of them will be the first to pay only the on-line price, maybe to lower the premium for better competition, but I would suspect them to stick as long as possible to the established premiums and prefer on-line prices.

Some of the Insurance company web sites have been advertisng for and pushing the on line vendors for years . When we fill out the mail in forms for these insurance companies they require a signature by an optometrist or licensed optician and sometimes also the Optician's license number . How do the on line vendors sign off on these forms ? In order to be paid dierctly or to receive direct deposit payments you have to be registered with these insurance companies .

Does that not sound like a double standard ? Some regulatory bodies refuse to do anything about it and in fact to this day will come after the complainant members rather than investigate the unlicensed dispensers . Some regualtory bodies even refuse to hear complaints from members.

Some Manualife plans can be direct billed, yes. If their plan has payment assignment, it can be, if not, no. The only Sunlife plan we've ever been able to bill was for General Motors, but I think that was a special case. They've since moved to Greenshield though, so that's a moot point.

We deal with Green Shield, Blue Cross, Manulife, GreatWestLife, and of course government programs like DVA, RCMP and Native Affairs. It's a little annoying some times, but no where near the hastle of our friends to the south.
