    Blue Jumper A trivex observation

This week I had a friend/customer come in with his tree piece drilled screw mount glasses which had been crushed in the soft case by the front wheel of his Cadillac.
The lenses were just fine, not scratched, not, chipped cracked or broken. I give the soft leather case credit for the not scratched part.
Now the frame was another matter entirely and it had been pretzilized. I did manage to rehabilitate that with some effort. But the lenses looked virginal.

That's pretty amazing. I remember falling in love with trivex when my husband was able to remove super glue from his without damage.

My only issue with Trivex is I hate to do edge polishes as they add reflection. Trivex really doesnt look that great when edged without.

I'm totally using this term now.

I've recently become a fan of edge tinting. I guess, about a year ago, I was able to pick up a set for my office. I've edge-tinted all my glasses that I wear, and it looks really nice on a drill mount. Most importantly, it reduces that edge reflection.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

    Stick out tongue

I ran over my Trivex drill mount while Kart racing.

Left glasses in my lap while putting on the helmet... and forgot to put them on after.
In the middle of the race: "Man... this visor is really foggy" (lifts visor) "OH No where are my glasses ".

One soldered pin broke, the lenses didn't (had some scratches where the tyres got them).

Some years back I posted a photo sent to me by Billy Brock. It was of an SUV front tire on top of a 75 mm trivex blank. We entitled the photo "Pete's Speed Bump" because he had not yet seen the light and was still touting polycarb as the best lens material. This was before he joined Essilor and I think it is fair to say he has "seen the light" on Trivex. Since Trivex we've seen 1.67, and 1.74, but if you are going to drill a lens Trivex is still the best.

Chip, you shouldn't use trivex...it makes patients become irresponsible with their glasses. They think they can do anything to them and get away with it. And it cuts down on lens breakage...so we can't make a profit.

A fantastic robust product that is nearly indestructible and far superior to Poly - and you can't make a profit? The root of your redos and lack of profit isnt being caused by the Trivex material. Perhaps you should review your marketing approach and warranty policies to your patients.

All rimless frames with Trivex that leave my lab include a 2 year warranty against chipping/breakage - not a single return yet.

We have done over 2,000 drill mounts in trivex and had 2 breakages. One was a set of lenses that were thin and they hit the floor and got stepped on. The others were mine in Vegas this year and I stepped on them and snapped the edge of the lens off. It worked out well as I got a new lens design and now can read with my sunglasses on again.
We know of only 2/2000+ jobs, so this material is my friend. We also do not see the scratch coatings craze like on poly over time. We do 85% trivex and rest is 1.67 with some 1.74.

    It was tongue-in-cheek.

Well, I'm not Chip, but the newer folks here haven't witnessed some of Chip's shots across the md/od's bow.
