is a polarized gray glass progressive available?

I've got an old-school customer that beats the h3ll out of his eyewear & INSISTS on wearing glass.

I've called around & have not been able to find anyone who can get a polarized glass progressive.

    Any suggestions?

In the quick search box-fill out the following

    Type in:

    Material-glass
    Clear-gray
    Polarized-yes

    Hope that helps!

The default choice for lens color is "Clear"; if you don't choose either Gray or Brown you will not get any results as there is no such thing as a "Clear Polarized" lens (same for photochromics). I know it's a little whacky, but I decided on the Clear default because if you ARE looking for a clear lens and don't make a color choice, the results include polarized and photochromic choices as well. Good heads-up tho, maybe I should make it more clear.

Great to have you back bro!

For the record, X-Cel's "grey" in Polarized Glass is a Grey-Green. While not exactly G-15, it's pretty close.

I also discovered I have some old Freedom-5's, and even a Varivue......

One thing to remember about glass polarized lenses - they are not and cannot be tempered, so they will chip easily and will also not withstand a very heavy impact and will not pass drop ball test. The polarizing layer will help prevent the broken glass from flying and help prevent against penetration, but if your guy beats the crap outta his lenses, don't let him think these will require no care. Usually someone wants glass because they're too lazy to care for their glasses.
Ask him if he beat up his iPhone like he does his glasses.

I agree with all of the above, except that they WILL pass a drop ball test.

They definitely do flake and chip easier than tempered glass (especially when you're trying to put one in an 8 base wrap....).

I've never drop balled them as I was told they were exempt, like glass execs.

I wouldn't even drop them- if they land on a hard surface, front side down, it's all over.

    like glass execs
I remember heat tempering these. They melted real nice if you didn't average the thickness just right. I seem to remember drop balling them, but that was 30+ years ago. Or maybe I'm remembering the bar we played at on the south side where you threw your empty beer bottle against the wall at the end of the bar, where most of the glass fell into a big garbage container. Not as tough as the Chicago south side, but tough enough.

Yeah-- he's a self-admitted chronic abuser. An abuser with deep pockets. We don't warranty glass, and he orders new lenses about every 6 months... Progressives, SV reading & distance-- and now these. Oh well...

It must be difficult/annoying for your client to have to put SV glasses on and off all of the time for varying viewing distances. Wouldn't it be better to put him into a near - intermediate environment lens like the Shamir Office for indoor work use? We have fit many happy PAL wearers into this lens specifically for near-intermediate use. While their every day PAL was suitable for most visual tasks, they have told us how much they enjoy the wide intermediate vision and comfortable ergonomics by adding the Office Lens to their eyewear wardrobe.

yes-- it might be ideal, but please keep in mind that he only wants glass lenses made by Zeiss...

He also is not crazy about progressives.

I thought they sounded like a lens sales person when I got the email about the post.... Probably not happy that the patient only wants Zeiss. Of course reading the thread would have helped since it's about polarized glass....
