Sold Armani like crazy back in the heyday of the early 90s then dropped them like a hot potatoe when they went to LUX. Found out we didn't really miss them all that much and never did pick it back up when they changed back. Bottom line here....don't care.

I don't know who you bought them from, because Luxottica introduced the line in 1988. They moved to Safilo a few years ago and now they are back.

Armani Group, global leader in the fashion and luxury industry, and Luxottica Group S.p.A. (MTA: LUX; NYSE: LUX), a leader in the eyewear sector, today announced that a Letter of Intent has been signed which is preliminary to an exclusive license agreement for the design, manufacturing and global distribution of sun and prescription eyewear under the Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani and A/X brands, beginning January 2013. “Back in 1988 Giorgio Armani and Luxottica started a very successful journey together: together we changed the world of eyeglasses which, previously perceived as mere functional instruments, evolved into “eyewear” and into indispensable fashion accessories. Armani is eponimous of excellence of Made in Italy and represents values which are perfectly in line with ours. We are therefore excited to work together again, in a partnership that will for sure be mutually beneficial,” commented Andrea Guerra, Chief Executive Officer of Luxottica.
The Letter of Intent, which is not binding, is preliminary to the signing of a 10 year license agreement, which will envisage market conditions and will begin on January 1, 2013. The first collection could be presented during 2013.

Are they seriously saying that there were no fashionable eyeglasses available before 1988? Ludicrous.

    What next!!???

Holy cow! This REALLY throws a wrench into things! We recently remodeled our offices to show the world how trendy and up to date we were. We even designated a special place for the latest designer fashions.

I realize that these companies have my best interest at heart, and although I sometimes have a difficult time understanding it, this latest move by Safilo and Lux will really force me to change things around...yet again!

I think I might be forced to move our designated "special place" outdoors, so we have more room!

Yes, I do believe that a movement, of a sort, is in your future.

On a more serious note: (no....really!)

It goes to show you how strong the brand names are, if they can keep switching the distributors, as well as the quality of the manufacturing (either way), and they still continue to sell.

You are correct and I had forgotten that we dumped Armani when LUX bought LC.

ARMANI IS DEAD -- Back in the old days when it was cool to wear an Armani Suit (Arsenio Hall), then you could expect to sell Armani glasses. Not today. "No one" wears Armani anymore.

The last time this happened, when Armani went from Luxottica to Safilo, lots and lots of cheap Armani appeared at ForEyes and the like. It was discontinued, from the old licensee, but still Armani, and still capable of watering down the brand (much as disco'ed MJ sunglasses do now).

That may be your opinion, but the company (Armani Group) has annual sales over 3.6 Billion euros in 2000.

Name me a bigger fashion brand you think in stronger.

Armani is the Luxottica of the fashion world and he ownes it all. In fact he ownes 5% of Luxottica.

Should I name one from today, 2011-or from 11 years ago like your example?

    Fashionable Glasses before 1988?

Until Luxottica introduced the armani small ovals and round styles, there really wasn't much in the late 80's. He really changed the industry and moved eyewear into afordable luxury instead of medical devices.

I also never thought $500 shirts, and $1700 suits were "mid level fashion" either.

No one person has had as much influence on couture fashion than "Armani"

What is true is that Luxottica made enough on the Armani franchise back then to expand into the company you all love today; so one chorus of "Thank You Giorgio!!".

    2000? As in..the year before 9/11?

Yeah...I guess not much has changed since then!

FezzJohns...of course. But what do I know?

According to this article, it's Ralph Lauren, Diesel, and Calvin Klein. Armani did make the list (look at the bottom), but it doesn't seem to be on the tip of everyone's tongue.

Hmmm....trying to think of the designer frames I dispensed before 1988....Oscar de la Renta, Diane Von Furstenberg, Perry Ellis, Halston, Polo, Ralph Lauren. Anyone remember when the Ralph Lauren and Polo kits were in nice wood boxes?

Please, rep, don't start this pi$$ing contest.

The private practice I work for sells some Armani, including Armani Exchange, and I think they are nice frames.
Will be sad to see them go.
