Crier FT-28 and 35 Poly discontinued?

I was just notified by our lab (Omega-Dallas, Essilor) that the FT-28 and 35 polycarb lenses are discontinued. Is this correct? Not really sure what to think right now. Let me know what others think. Thanks .

Not quite true. One of two manufacturers of poly ST28 has temporarily halted production, putting an instant cramp on inventories--lenses are becoming real hard to find. ST35 is still in production.

VE is in the process of re-tooling for FT28s. Production halted for 6 months. At least that's the story I got. Meanwhile Gentex is trying to keep up with demands.

    The FT35 is not discontinued.

Yes, I heard today they are merely retooling for 28's. It will be @ 6 months before quantities are such that they are easy to come by again but they are not d/c'd permanently. You just can't get them right now.

    Thumbs up ft 28's

    Hello,

I want to thank those who read my mind. This past Thursday I was told by one of my labs I could get ft 28's. At least I know now that it's true. However not all my labs said they had this problems. Are there other poly ft 28's out there, not made by ve or gentex(since they're being overrun)?

    Wave

I would have thought that Hoya and Younger would have been rubbing their hands at this god given chance to really push "Trivex" hard to take up the short fall in poly...Could be a major missed chance to take the market by storm...even if they are at a preimum price.
If trivex's claims are true then nobody switching from poly to trivex will ever want to change back.....
Dont matter how cheap the rivals sell for if you cant get em......

I wonder if the rumors are true??

I heard the reason VE stopped production was due to the fact some disgruntled employees not happy with VE's move....took it upon themselves to destroy All the 28 molds! That should have been something that made better than pg 4. of VM!
