How to get started writing CE credits and giving CE lectures.

Does anyone have any helpful tips for how to go about getting started with maybe lecturing at conferences for CE credits for opticians, or possibly writing CE credits for some of the trade magazines? I just became certified as a Master Optician and this is my next goal. I would appreciate any advice anybody has for how to go about getting started, and how to know what fair compensation should be. Thanks!

Welcome to Optiboard cgood and congrats on getting your Masters. 1st you'll need to download this form from the ABO;

Once you get your packet, fill it out for speaker application ($50). Request Level III so you can present any CE ( You have to be AC, ABOM or Dr. for Level III approval). You'll use the same form to send in your CE course for approval (another $50.) Make sure you follow their guideline on CE course submission.

As far as speaking gigs, until you get known, plan on very little if any compensation. Some publications will pay around $300 for a CE they publish. Look for area Optician Associations for places to get started as a speaker. Good luck!
