I know that both CR-39 and Glass are not recommended for Avantek.

If the tabs are glued on, I'm relieved. I was afraid the blank size would have to accomodate milling the tabs.

The mounting "tabs" are milled (MEI) directly out of the lens material...NOT glued.

So, Barry, do you know how this affects blank size/maximum frame size/cut-out issues?

from the faq page on their website...10. If a piece detaches, can I use super glue?
    - No. The Avantek Reversible Bonding Adhesive (RBA) has been specifically designed to create a persistent but reversible attachment for polycarbonate lenses and the Avantek frame system. Please return the glasses to Avantek for repair. Use of any glue will void the warranty.

AvantekTM frames solve those problems. The Avantek Mounting SystemTM usesa tabbing process that is combined with a reversible bonding system. The tabbing process eliminates the need forscrews, wires, or rims; since the tabs are actually part of the lens itself, the mounted frame has superior durability to drill-mounts. Furthermore, the no obstructions are present withinthe field of view since the frame mounts onto the sides of the lens, making aclean look and full visibility possible with no interference with cleaningcloths.

    sorry Barry...its just glue.

not speaking for Barry, but he was referring to the tabs not being glued to the lens, the tabs are part of the lens, this tab is then glued to the frame.

Thank you for clarifying this. The tabs are additionally held in with a nylon "rivet"...unless what I saw as a rivet is actually a dollop of glue.

I read the website and there are many typo's and items that are not clear. They talk of only using poly, but is promoted now using Phoenix? There is no way to email the company from the site. The site is also so small on parts that you cannot read it.

If we wait long enough, they will be part of the Empower collection!

They may be great, but the attention to detail is lacking in a big way!

I *used* to think this way, but I can't possibly make any Maui Jims, Oakleys, or REVOs as well as the parent labs can.

No way. And now, I *like* it that way!
