    Ray-Ban Prescription Lenses?

Had a client call me. Wanted me to RX a sunglass for him. Asked me if the lenses were going to be Ray-Ban prescription lenses. Said that Lenscrafters offers Ray-Ban prescription lenses with markings etc... Anyone heard about this?

Why anyone would bother with factory raybanmauijimoakleyserengettiectect lenses is beyond me. We can reproduce the premium features of these things easily without the price bump; except they won't have The Name inked onto the corner of the lens.

But that's the most important part!!! :)

This guy wants a grad tint though. Doesn't look like that's an option with the RoX.

He came in and bought them anyways. Can only get the RoX ones in brown or grey polarized. No grads. I told him I could draw a little RB on there with whiteout.

Just to elaborate the RB RoX lenses are 1.60 polarized lenses in ( I believe) Grey, G15 and B15 with backside A/R. And of course the customer is paying about $150 more to have RB etched on them. Sigh.

U can buy a laser engraving machine but is not cheap. I have one to put client's name or design patterns onto the lenses.

Ray Ban Rox+ are the 1.60 High Index. Ray Ban Rox are the Poly. Of course the pricing is different for the two types of lenses but they actually are very nice for the customer that needs brand recognition in a classic lens.

How well does it work, and what are the limitations/drawbacks to using it?

I heard lux will be rollingthis out for ECPs through their Ray Ban optical dealers. I will be happy to offer "authentic" RB prescription, as I do with Maui Jim and Oakley, as long as they are digitally-enhanced/FF designs. The youngin's luv RBs and they'll luv RB Authentic Rx. No brainer.

Luxottica owns the brand...................Luxottica owns Lens Crafters, they have all the rights to scratch the Logo into any lens they want, even into blue green and red glass, plastic or steel lenses. Of course it is not the original B&L brand which does not exist anymore. They are protected and you can nly copy without the brand because they only exist at Lux owned places.

Pearle's had access to this for about a year now. The finished product is really good, all DST. They look like plano suns when viewed from the front. Aside from Oakley, RayBan is the most asked for sunglass line in our office. RayBan's flow like water out of our office, which means $$!

I sell Oakley, Ray Ban and Maui Jim beacause it's what people want. If they want to spend extra for Rx lenses with a name in the corner... GREAT!! What o I have in the job? Nothing. These branded Rx sunlenses are very possibly the easiest money your office will make.

You can get Serengetti lenses from Zeiss, and they can be gradient tinted. ODG supplies the same product without the serengetti label, it's trivex NXT varia copper. It can be gradient tinted and is the same thing being sold by Zeiss as Serengetti.

    +1.
Interesting that Boarders here bash "designer" / logoing a lens when they likely have a store filled with designer branded frames each with their distinct logo. Can understand you may want to bash them cuz it's Lux, but don't deny the power that branded products bring to the marketplace.

We must remember that Oakley is Lux as well, and that brand is still in many shops.

What we have found is that by the time we add flash front, backside AR, polarization, etc., to the lenses, they often times cost as much as the branded, i.e. MJ or Oakley lenses. We don't do Rayban, but have thought about it. If I had a nickle for every time someone asked for RB, I would have $$$.

Conversely, when lenses are "out of spec" for MJ or Oakley to handle, they go to our lab with the billion dollar edger that can reproduce them the best. And they are money makers! MJ with Autograph/Individual wrap lenses anyone??!!!

I've been told by my doctors that in our contract with Oakley, I MUST use their lab (I've never personally investigated the contract); which means when folks are out of range (which is more often than not), too bad for them they gotta do something else, as we "can't/aren't allowed" to do the lenses.. Does that sound crazy to you guys or is it just me?

Of course check with your particular situation, but I believe what they may mean is that cutting non authentic lenses for that frame, you may void any manufacturer warranty on the frame.
