    Coburn 99 Alloy blocker questions

I have never used an alloy blocking system I have always used wax. However, I am going to be working with an old Coburn 99 blocker. The thing I am not sure about is the chill ring. I was looking at the equipment at noticed they do not have a chill ring, and the person who was there before me is gone. I have always used the chill ring for not only chilling but for avoiding prism in the generation process. They have a fridge next to the blocker to chill the rings, but I am still concerned about prism and alignment issues with no chill ring to afford stability. So I have a few questions. Please only respond if you use a 99.

Is the lack of a chill ring going to be an issue like I imagine or does it infact work well without one with the Coburn 99?

Does anyone know where to get a cheap chill ring for the 99?

Contact Glenn Fluegge, he's in the Racine area and may be able to help you.

    Serious help

You need some serious help. You are going from a wax system to a modle 99? You must consider type of block, generator chucking type and your LMS softwear paramiters. Thickness will be effected as well as prism. Get a pro to spend some time adjusting your LMS parameters and training in house. Yes, you need some chilling rings too.

Speed thanks for your reply but that was not my question... This is a completely separate lab with its own equipment. It has never been anything but an alloy system I just have never used alloy. The concern is only about the chill ring and its absolute necessity.

    Thanks though

Jacqui I will contact the Fluegges on Tuesday, that is actually who this lab uses as its supplier for parts and supplies so my assumption is if he didnt think it was necessary it isnt, but I think I will still ask him to see if he can russle me up one as I am just used to it.

its funny Speed it seemed like such an obvious answer I felt stupid even posting the question... Yeah I need to get them to send me one... or maybe there is one hidden in a random drawer or something and thats why i cant find one. If not Fluegge to the rescue hopefully lol

I would prefer to just throw the 99 out and get a wax blocker all together too bad they don't seem to have the budget right now for that.

After blocking each job using alloy, make sure you wait an ample enough time before surfacing! Could end up with some wavey or off power jobs.

We dumped the chiller a long time ago. Now we use the ring from the chiller, without the chilling effect. You can also use a standard blocking ring.
