Newest Cover of the August 20/20? Weird.

Has everyone got their August 20/20 here in the US? The front picture is a Greatful Dead looking dude wearing a what appears to be woman's frame, Huge clear plastic with huge gold "Ladders" or links on the side.

Please promise you will never dispense this frame to this guy. Please.

It's not so strange. Is it a Crizal?

The cover made me throw the magazine away without ever opening it up. If the feature of the month is some dude in womens frames... I simply can't use the info in my town.

Cazal just reissued several of it's "classic" styles. That frame in black was heavily worn by the rappers.

Well, I see sveral problems with a summary *chucking* of the current issue:

    1. You threw out *my* terrrific article on edging and edgers
    2. You demonstrated that you are out of touch with your *femine* side.
    3. (ahem....!) I believe "cross-gender" is the appropriate descriptor for applying a frame primarily meant for one sex to the other.

    Or...perhaps..."cross-ethnic" is the better moniker.

Cazal, that's it. A pair like this came in for repair, same style, in black. The guy was really happy we could fix the hinge. He said they were from Germany and when this frame first came to the US, people in the streets would snatch them right off your face.

I saw that cover and did a double take! That frame looked ridiculous on him.

As for Cazal I sold it at a place I worked over 20 years ago. I remember the owner telling us about them and how proud he was of them. Unfortunately we didn't keep them in a case and a couple of weeks later we looked around and realized they were all gone! I can't remember if we had even sold one, but everyone on our board was stolen.

We've used the term "unisex" since the 80's as well, Barry.

In the early 80's here in NY, the two items almost guaranteed to get you mugged were the right leather jacket & Cazal frames. I worked for Fred Hamou in the Bronx, he asked that I bring my 2 Akitas to work to deter shoplifting by the high school kids. The tall ones would reach over the counter to the frame board. We set a chair in front of the window display, & Puma (130 lbs) would stick his head in & watch the street. Every store owner on Jerome Ave had a big dog at the time. Word spread, pilferage stopped like magic! Our customers loved the dogs, deli guy brought breakfast over every day! Late nights were stressful, lots of crime. My girl Vixen stopped a would be hold up by jumping up on counter.....the guy started stuttering & ran out. Boy, those were the days!

Classic Cazals 623, I agree the most popular color is in Black like the Cazal 607 that Run DMC made famous.

There are two of us in the office that have been around long enough to recognize the Cazal frame. The younger ones cringed and to be honest we did too. It was simply a matter of miscasting the photo shoot. A white hippie dude is not going to be wearing a frame like this. Change the color of the frame, put it on a black guy and it's going to look vintage chic.

I disagree, there are tons of 'white guys' and other guys who think that wearing a frame like this is cool and hip (not saying that they are right, but that's what they think). As to your reshoot a 'black guy' in the black frame:Click image for larger version.

Still looks bad. Just goes to prove that an expensive frame does not, in fact, look good just because of the sitcker price.

I am all for iconic style, don't get me wrong, but the cover was just rediculous. I have kinda come to expect it from 20/20...they need new stylists.

I sold a ton of them in the 80's too. Don't remember it as a ladies frame though.

Perhaps you should go through the files to see what Elton John has worn for spectacles, who knows you may have seen the cutting edge of a new trend.
