Add NC- adults and children. Very easy to get the exam, not so easy to get the glasses.

Actually I thought it was a fed program run by the states. The states are supposed to get all dat free money from Wishington, if they disperse it and just puts in a small potion demselves.
Didn't think any state had no option o' turnin down dat free money.

The rumor on the street here is that in October, medicaid will only cover glasses for 21 and under in NC. Not a done deal yet, but looking that way.

Texas has Medicaid glasses for adults and children. What they get depends on which plan and who administers it.

There are 3 different administrators for Texas Medicaid that I'm aware of: State of Texas, Opticare, and Block Vision. I believe that each admin has several plans available each with different benefits and requirements.

Too much red tape and BS!!!

Here in Washington State I believe the program was discontinued for adults and now applies to children only. Its called DSHS here for Department of Social and Health Services.

Why would any government official advocate spectacles for anyone.....?!

In Oregon there is no more coverage for adults, only children and I think even those days are numbered. My theory is, and I've spoken of this before, why would any government official burden the state's time and budget to try and provide eyeglasses to ANYONE now that all they need to do is supply those individuals with a couple of pages showing cheap On-line eyeglass providers out there and tell them that the state now relies on these types of businesses to provide the poor with their visual "needs" ?

I do not think this info is correct.

In California, medicaid is called "Medi-Cal" it covers eye exam for all members. It also cover eyeglasses for all members under age 21 plus adults live in qualified assistant living facilities. The eye exam is every 12 month and the hardware is every 24 month with some special conditions exceptions.

Maine does 2 pair a year until the day you turn 21. the frames and lenses are total garbage and break super easily. They have little to no selection for infants. They require a PA from the original doctor for more than the 2nd pair, and almost always deny it after taking 3 - 5 weeks to decide.

    RX requirements:

Over a +1.25 in one eye
Over -0.75 for myopes in one eye
OR a -0.50 or more in cyl in one eye

There is only one place in our area that has about 7 optometrists that will take outside prescriptions, and we don't do them at all. We were pretty done with their crappy quality especially once they switched to classic. nothing like having someone call and yell at you because their free glasses i paid for were taking 2 weeks because we had to send them back to the lab that made them in the wrong RX The scarier thing is when the 23 year old kid with no job and a pregnant girlfriend comes in with a -6.00 RX and no glasses, and then drives off wearing nothing when he's told he has to pay for a new pair. Happens about once a month. *shudder*

my other favorite: why don't they cover the ones that bend and twist?

OR: Aren't there any more pretty ones?

    What a country!

Yeah, let them starve. Then they won't need to see and won't bother us having to see their destitution. Wait, is that contrary to what Jesus taught.???
