How many states do medicaid glasses

Last year California stopped doing medicaid specs, last week it was one of the Carolinas.

How many states still do them?

I'm in Massachusetts, we still do specs for Medicaid. What other states do them, and what other states recently stopped them?

Quite honestly, I'm going to use the info to stop our "entitled" from complaining about their free specs.

NY still does it if you can find people that will take it.

Missouri does still but you have to find a doctor that takes it. I hope we keep it for the kids. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if we lost it for adults though.

And when they break them after three months they can't understand why they can't get a new pair.

Mississippi gives children two pair a year, the more agressive OD's dispense two pair, no need to wait til they break them besides they are such cheap frames they will probably break before they get home.
But the if we didn't the parents might have to do without one of those big screen TV's , or cell phones, or Lexus or the five pounds of jewelry, or even skip a tattoo or two. If they did that, the wouldn't support the DNC.

Oklahoma still does it, but I don't know if the rules have changed. About 10 years ago, at least, the conditions were maddening (on this end). Let me say first, adults were allowed one pair a year. They had to get prior authrorization if they broke or lost them, and it was usually denied unless they had some sort of weird diagnosis. But for kids, they were allowed a replacement any time they needed it. If they were broken, we had to retain the broken glasses on-site, in a bag marked with their name and the date. If they were lost, the parent had to write a statement, saying in writing that they were no longer in possesion of the glasses, and we kept that statement on file. In case we were ever audited, we had "proof" of the lost or broken glasses that way.

It was infuriating sometimes to be supplying glasses to families where the parents each had cell phones or pagers (remember, this was 10 years ago. Cell phones weren't as common), and the mom always had her hair and nails done up all fancy-like. At some point, it occured to me to quit my job and just go have a whole bunch of kids. It took me a while to simply get over it. That's how it is, like it or not.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Not to hijack the thread, but itsn't this true of everyone? The average family pays more than $100/month on their cell phone bill, cable is at least $50 (our's is 175 for cable and internet), the latte factor, etc... But everyone complains about the cost of a pair of glasses. I get that no one wants to shell out x amount of money for whatever they want/need, but what's the point of spending hundreds, and sometimes even thousands a year on cable if you can't see it?

Ok, end of hijack, here in Connecticut we do medicaid, although it just changed to once every two years, and I believe that is for everyone, even the kids.

We have many patients who a very grateful for the glasses Mass Health provides. We have some who complain but not often and I know them for who they are if you take my meaning. Do you carry the whole collection?

BTW- My Doc's are dropping the Medicare post IOL glasses benefit this fall rather than pay the fee to be a provider. Are you?

One is only 'ENTITLED' to what one friggen EARNS damit!

Now MY children are ENTITLED to MY welth when I pass on.
NOT someone else or someone else's children.
The only way one can be ENTITLED to anything is by birth.
And just because you were born american does not mean you are 'entitled' to receive a handout in this world.......it should be a hand UP.....but you have to put forth the effort to help yourself. If you dont do that then it is called WELFARE. And we all are stinking tired of paying for freeloaders.

Crud.......I need to just get off my soap box befor I blow a gasket.

CC: Can't say too much for your spelling but you will notice that you don't even have to be an American citizen to get handouts now. Appearently you haven't even had to live in the U.S. to get them from all the aid we give out (from money we had to borrow, we haven't even earned it yet.
But such is the generosity of people that are giving other people's money away.

No way. WV isn't so backward that its residents are considered children until 21. Is it?

If you live in one of the very few states where medicaid can be used for glasses and you get your glasses at one of the very few places that take medicaid, then yes.

If you live in one of the many states where medicaid cannot be used for glasses or you go somewhere that does not take medicaid, then no.

Alabama offers it to kids and adults, but the reimbursement for materials was just reduced by 25% a couple of weeks ago.

According to the survery,we can found that:More than 58 million Americans (about 20% of the population) are enrolled in a Medicaid program. Some states have named their Medicaid program including, for example, "Medi-Cal" in California, "MassHealth" in Massachusetts, "Oregon Health Plan" in Oregon, and "TennCare" in Tennessee.so in here ,you can find some facts.
