Its like a zero distance car....................no motor no power...............................plano would be the right anser.................no power
Thanks Chris,
But if the lenses is Plano lenses -- now prower. Why the customer need RX lens. In my thinking, usually Rx is special for a individual power. they can not buy the lenses from stock lenses, so they need do the RX processing. Am i right?
Is the mistake my customer made?
The patient may want plano glasses with AR to help with night driving, and/or computer use.
We occasionally get requests for plano spectacles. Mainly from those who want to look cool

Oh but BMH.....say the person just wants to wear glasses cause they are "cool" or they have one good eye only and want the protection at all times. That now my friend is where A/R comes into play and is beneficial for the person at night time driving to cut down on reflections, and for light reflecting from the computer.

Yes CCGREEN, assuming either of those factors you are correct. I am a fan of AR on every pair of glasses.
The only reason i made my comment is I had a patient come to me from an outside doctor saying he was told to get plano w/AR for night driving. I explained my opinion about that set up and he still wanted them so of course i took his money. After he got them he called me back a few days later to say he noticed no percievable improvement with the glasses. He stated "I can see the same with or without them." Really? You don't say?
I try to do my best not to give any of my patients a false expectation of any lens treatments. We can do some cool stuff to glasses now and I love it... but don't mislead someone into thinking AR or Transitions is going to do or be something they are not.

Frosted lenses = Zero distance glasses....That's the exact distance you will see out of them.
Hmmmmm, now what kind of power would you need to place the focal point at the cornea? That could be construed as zero distance.

We had someone come-in to get plano specs to give the illusion of "intelligence" while speaking before crowds.

I once had two women come in to get four pairs of plano glasses each to "look smarter." One was a tall brunette with a mini-skirt so short she needed a bikini wax. The other had orange hair down to her behind. Wonder how much smarter they looked?
But then I have known baby faced ophthalmologists who grew beards just so the patients would think they were old enough to be doctors.

Thank you all of you, the point i have clear. the customer only need plano lenses with AR coating and anti-fatigue. so zero distance RX, it's not correct. Thank you very much for all of you.
Sometimes a patient may want them, just to be able to file with the insurance company. But most/some Ins Companies won't cover plano (no Rx).
Other than for safety reasons, I have never seen a patient that needed a plano lens, much less with AR and/or anti-fatigue. Suspect patient has seen some advertising BS and thinks it will help him.

zero distance..............they want window glass!....gotta love it.
He made them popular and has them on now!
I'd recommend using a lens created using compensated optics. Make sure you take tilt, frame wrap and vertex distance into account. This guarantees the most even absence of power across the entire lens surface. Finish with high end AR.
An "Rx'd" product exported/imported under some countries rules have to follow export and or import taxation laws...............this customer may be trying to dodge a luxury tax?
