I've seen some info on CBSMarketWatch and Yahoo! finance about Gerber Scientific looking to sell Gerber Cobrun. Does anyone have the inside scoop?

You can read their press release at: www.gerberscientific.com
Funny this because here in the uk we thought Gerber had bought Cobrun just to get rid of a compeditor looks like it was true after all, they have run everything into the ground.

Seems funny that the link for this is buried beneath the "news" link at the bottom of the page and doesn't work, but neither does the one about Q1 results.Originally posted by Rick Tinson:

BTW - All the others worked, but as Barry Levinson would say "I'm sure it's just a co-wink-a-dink". Oh yeah and they made the announcement on the Friday before a long weekend.
Rex "still shocked"

check out vision monday online-they have a story on it
The announcement comes at a time when Gerber
Quote from http://www.visionmonday.com about this subject
Well said that one...Coburn is rebounding from an earnings slump in 1998-99 that the company attributed to weak foreign exchanges rates and an overall softness in the optical industry. In Gerber Scientific's recently released 2000 annual report, chairman Michael Cheshire noted that "Gerber Coburn has had a very impressive turnaround with sharply improved earnings and cash flow."
Well in 98-99 over here in the UK they were running things down so fast it became a standing joke about sorry its out of stock now.
Can't realy see anyone wanting to buy it now.
Will it make those of you running coburn machines want to change if they do go under?

I have a hard time understanding how, having read the source materials cited here, one might make the logical leap required to suggest that GC might "go under".Originally posted by john r:

Unless you're thinking that an Aussie outfit might be interested (bonzer!)...
I was not thinking of them going under just that i cant see anyone wanting to buy them now after they way everything seems to have been run down, in the UK they sold up where they were and had to more in with spandex so if they are sold then they would have to find a new home again. Also i think i'm right with this but did'nt they get rid (maybe not the right way of saying it) of all the r/d staff that knew anything about coburn machines state side.Originally posted by shanbaum:

I'm sure our resident engineer would love the chance of a visit down under to learn about new machines. :D (crack open a few tinnies mate...)

Goodonyamate!!!
Shanbaum would i be right in thinking that you work for gurber coburn? Someone said at work to day that your address of S Windsor is where coburn is from.
I do. Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed that you knew. I did introduce myself in the ophthalmic optics forum.Originally posted by john r:
