New Shamir Spectrum lenses? (for SV and MF)

What do you all think of the new Spectrum lens by Shamir... the rep makes it sound pretty nice, but I haven't tried any yet.

Anyone have much experience with these (in single vision or as progressives)?

I'm deciding whether to try an Autograph II or a Spectrum lens in single vision for myself (rx ~-5.00 ou).

    Thanks

The only real difference between the two in SV is that the Auto 2 now takes into account POW values (the current Spectrum SV is the old Auto 2 SV, which did not use POW values).
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

I personally am recommending the Spectrum over the Auto II in low powers and Hyperopes. It also has a wider intermediate.

You have no cyl, did you adjust your RX for contact wear or do you really have no cyl? If you are adjusting your RX for CL compatibility I would go with the Spectrum, if you are not, I would try the Auto II. The Auto II will not work well with a fudged RX.

For an Rx that I would use Auto II for (cyl power, then I don't use spectrum. For those low power and hyperopes, I like either Comfort 2 or Definity.

Barry, I'm really interested to know why you wouldn't use Spectrum over Auto II. I don't know how they're pricing it in the U.S. but here in Australia Spectrum is significantly cheaper and we've had occasion to change patients from Auto II to Spectrum for adaptation reasons. I feel that the compensated calcs for Auto II are a bit off sometimes and find it a bit hard to trust.

I have yet to find the compensated calcs of Auto II as the central culprit in progressive acuity issues.
I have found, however, that if a pair of progressives has a recipe of:
    1. A less than appropriate Rx or Rx change, with
    2. Edge-of-tolerance fabrication, combined with
    3. POW calcs that also run in the same direction as the off-target Rx + the edge of tolerance lab fabrication...

You get a very unhappy progressive wearer. But I don't think the Shamir's or any other design's calcs are the main culprit by themselves.

I've been digging them. they are soft, wide, and stable enough to be a progressive solution. The fitting heights are flexible too! I approve

I've switched from Creation to Spectrum (they're actually cheaper!) as my primary PAL and am having great results. I've had a little problem with the "18" in fitting heights under 21mm but it works great when higher. I also received my own pair this week; best peripheral vision of any lens I've ever worn. I ordered a "14" even tho I had a 16mm fitting height (decided based on above comment about the "18") but it has almost no intermediate so I'm going to reorder it with the "16" and hope for better results there - also hoping to keep that nice clear peripheral vision.
