    Confused SV LASIK Overcorrection

11 month post-op LASIK patient has a correction of -.50 SPH OU. The individual also has a large amount of spherical aberration on their wave scans thereby reducing the quantity and quality of her vision.

Which single vision lens design would you be inclined to use. Has anyone had success with either the Zeiss or Shamir Freeform designs? Is one better than the
or other? How much success do you believe we can achieve? Can we expect much difference by incorporating the design and coatings?

Optiguru's question in the general forum is lonely.

For best vision: An RGP, getting a low Rx post lasic patient like this would probably be a lost cause, but it would give the best possible vision.

A patient that just spent however many thousands of dollars for LASIK is not going to want to hear that they need those hard "stone age" lenses. Maybe they were wearing soft lenses before and you are going to tell them they need RGPs now??

Don't know all the specifics of the patient pre-operatively, but maybe a retreat or a resetting of the flap can help. Was the surgery done by a reputable surgeon who stands behind his/her work?

Too many variables to give a pat answer. Does the patient have large pupils?

    Chip has the answer.....

You could try a low water content soft contact, carefully fitted(base curve), first.

What does the perpetrator of this disaster, have to say about this consequence. Will he/ she contribute to the cost? This patient probably hasn't even payed the interest on the loan, yet!

It could be worse, the thing that makes refractive surgery patients the most discontent is to end up a low hyperope.
