Need Metal Frame with No Nosepads

Every few years, the manufacturers come out with a handful of metal frames with no nosepads. The frame sits directly on the bridge of the nose. They usually discontinue them within a year because of poor sales. I try to keep a few in stock just in case, but I'm out.

    But some patients love them.

Do any of you know of a current metal frame with no nosepads?

    Jeff

Bannana Republic has several, a couple of other mfgs. Have some. They are excellent for disappating pressure and marks on the nose, very comfortable but you are up the lonesome creek if you need to raise or lower frame.

Make them.....find a bridge to fit, cut off the nose pad arms, file, buff, finish, and seal. Sculpture the bridge channels , and the top bar countersink, to a depth that fits. Acetone the cut areas.......and you're done!

    Uncut ---

I get the cut off, file, buff and seal... a great idea!
But what the heck do sculpture, countersink and the acetone have to do with it all?

We need more information, a lot more!

    Hi John:

Glad to oblige. I usually use aftermarket/spare bridge inserts, accumulated for spare parts...as these commonly fall out, or crack, etc.

Quite often the nasal bar thickness is greater than the groove in the insert, so I deepen it. Often, the eyerim depth is deeper or wider than the channel in the insert, so I will contour, or widen or deepen as required. The most elaborate ones are the friction fit types, and the easiest are the bolt on types. When all sculpturing is done...an acetone layer creates a smooth polished surface, not unlike the original insert. :bbg:

I understand that the o.p is probably posting soley about crest fit metals, but today's metal frames rarely have a bridge designed for this purpose, so I insert a plastic bridge to enable crest fitting, or a saddle fit.

Morel has discontinued their frames. We are looking for the same thing. Lunor is too expensive and the buy in too large.

    Blue Jumper W Bridge.............................

    http://www.antiquespectacles.com/treasures/mistaken.htm#

These frames have a brige that looks like W and are also called that name.

If you want to sell such frames today make sure that the metal does not contain any nickel alloys, or go for an antique rolled gold quality which will not cause any allergies by sitting directly on the skin.
