We are thinking of putting a lab in our office. Which edger is the better? Briot Alta Nx vs. Essilor Gamma ? Thank you.

Santinelli
If those are your only choices, then the Gamma. But I'd at least get a Kappa.
Being that you're in Ireland, look at the Nidek edgers.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.
Gamma is an older design. Kappa is newer, but I don't know what their latest model is called. We've use the Kappa for 9 1/2 yrs, and it has done very well for our needs.
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
Since you're in Europe, check the Weco line. If you want American check AIT.
Santinelli or go home.
If its only a choice of Essilor Gamma (read: "I hope you like lens slippage!") or the Briot (read: "Trips to Radio Shack for external fans to cool it down WILL be in your future!")... keep sending your work out until you can buy the Santinelli.

Always after me lucky charms!!! LOL. Is Dublin down the road from Ontairo, CA? Sorry, couldn't resist.
We have used the Santinelli 9000 since 2001, and they make great machines. Looking at upgrading to a new model that can cut the Super Hydro....I've tried all the tricks, but...Make sure it is new enough to cut the slippery AR coats. You can't save edging costs if your machine slips on a few jobs.
A word of wisdom: Since Dublin is near a major city, SERVICE should be easier, regardless of brand. I have had to pay Santinelli an Extra $600 to fly someone in to service my machine. We have since learned how to do many fixes ourselves now!!
May the luck of the Irish be with you!
I feel like a broken record because this is the second thread I have mentioned this in but have you tried the orange TAK anti slip pads from Salem Vision? I have a 9000sx expess and ever since we switched to those I haven't had a single issue even with the slipperiest (sp) AR's out there :)
Pez:D
To update the total confusion of Gamma vs Kappa from Essilor, as of Essilor taking over the distribution of edgers in the US from GerberCoburn, they have also changed the names around.
They are as follows: Kappa SPX (grooving and safety bevel) is now the Ultimate Gamma
Kappa CTD (grooving, safety bevel and drill, autoblocking is optional) is now the Ultimate Kappa
Hands down, the Ultimate Gamma or Kappa is a much better machine than the Briot, IMHO and experience!
