Progressive lens styles...am I too old fashioned?

I would like to continue fitting my patients with the Sola VIP progressive when the fit is appropriate. When talking with my other counterparts, they all strongly disagreed and told me that they rarely if ever fit this lens. I fit this lens, with great success. I also fit several other lens styles that I have available to me. Does anyone out there still fit this lens? BTW, this is my first day on the Optiboard, so please be gentle.

    Thank you.

No, you are the only one still fitting this lens .Just kidding, but come on , it's a wide near zone with A LOT of astigmatism in the periphery. I have found that patients used to all the peripheral blur should stay in this lens but really there are much better lenses out there. Try switching one of your VIP patients who wants a wider distance zone into the GT2 or Definity or Autograph 2 etc. and you will likely get the WOWS ! that the rest of the optical world has experienced. This should convince you. Welcome to the board !

You are not the only one fitting VIP's. We run 10~20 pairs a day here in the lab.....in glass.

No, it isn't a bad design per se, it's just a very, VERY old design, and there are better ones out there, even at entry level.

Suggestions: Younger Image, Shore Shoreview, Essilor Adaptar, Vision Ease Outlook, Signet Armorlite Navigator. None of these are the greatest progressive design, but they are all good.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

i think any lens if fitted with confidence can work. All designs worked well for the time period they were designed for. That doesn't mean that they were good designs, just that they were the best available when designed. It would be much the same as computers. Those designed 25 years ago worked and we thought they were pretty impressive then. If you used one of those today you wouldn't be very impressed with the performance. My analogy has always been a 1978 Ford Escort and 2011 Cadillac Escalade will both take you 200 miles, The ride is a lot nicer in the Cadillac though.

The other analogy is that an analog tv works just fine, but digital HD tv works a lot better. Once you try the HD tv, you'll never go back to analog. Same applies with digital progressives. We have found GT-2 3D pricing has come down to where it can be very affordable even for a price conscious customer. I'm in Southwest Michigan; if you want info on the lab we get special pricing from for GT-2 3D, PM me. Welcome to Optiboard!
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

LOL...I'll do my best. I'll only use it in-house, if that's fine. I'll do my best to not wear it out - and I will change the cars to protect the innocent!

    Cheers!

YES definately shore view...we compaired that lens to the image when we started using it..so far its had better success and even current image patients that were fit into the shoreview or the shoreview mini love them. the price is incredibly low for such a good lens..but im not complaining..thats a smart company by keeping it low!!!
