    PAL map comparisons

Thanks to this site, I just found thelensguru.com. Love that site. What I would like, however is the ability to compare lens maps with the ACTUAL RX IN PLACE. Its nice to see the maps of a plano/+2.00 design (which is what is represented) but I would love to be able to actually put in the patient's actual Rx and see what it looks like.

Does anyone know of a site that does this?

I fear this is not possible as long as you don´t send in the respective lens to the guys to get it messured. There is NO general way to calculate it, if you do not know the design strategy of the respective manufacturer, which in almost all cases will be kept a secret!

Depending on the degree of "individualization" the manufacturer applies the actual lens map will change, so the result will depend on presciption, base curve and all kinds of fitting parameters and how the manufacturer deals with those. Under best circumstances, lens maps with presciption should almost approach a plano lens, Zeiss claims they can do this for the "Individual", IIRC there used to be a whitepaper on that somewhere on this site.

    Cheers

This thread should help you somewhat: http://www.optiboard.com/forums/showthread.php/32931-Progressives-Lenses-Revealed

Is there anything specific you'd like to know?
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

Just how to read them in general...I would like to be able to compare designs in order to better suit patients needs, and I'm sure anything I can learn will only help me when I go to optometry school
