Basically the title! Does United Healthcare have its own vision insurance or does it run vision through someone else (ie: VSP or Eyemed)?
Thanks for the help :D

I think United vision benifits is OptumVision ( used to be called Spectera)
UHC plans may have a routine exam benefit and/or they may have purchased the vision rider: Optum (Spectera).
It's not Eyemed, it's OptumHealth/Spectera
just wondering...............if "they" knew that "we" called their plan Specterrible and changed it to Optum Health/United Health Care Vision :)
UHC can have it's own plan, or offer the "Optum" option as well. To be clear, there IS coverage with either EyeMed OR VSP occasionally as well..
In our area United HealthCare can have a few vision riders: EyeMed, Optum/Spectera (what they get if they have United HC and Medicare) and/or now March Vision (which is what they would have if they used to be on Unison). Hope this helps.
Humana is the same way: they have their own vision plan called "Comp Benefits" and they also sell Eyemed.
I fail to grasp why Humana would need Eyemed as a product, unless they just can't grow their own network.
Sometimes it is easier to offer a more nationally known plan, that has a variety of providers than it is to offer up a smaller plan. Some of the larger companies can negotiate for this. There is also the assorted benefit groups that will take the medical from one insurer, the vision from another, and dental from a third, package them up all together.. and sell it to a number of businesses. Basically making it a headache all around to track the benefit and the money..

Can't tell you how many patients and friends I have known that were so glad when thier company or organization got off United Healthcare. Almost as bad an outfit as Humana.

It's all about the rider. Around here UHC optical rider can be Spectera, Eyemed, or UHC - depends on the employer and what they provide to their employees.
around here United has VSP... but in the patient side of the paperwork it is United vision. on our end it is VSP.
we have seen a few plans doing that now, we are supposed to refer to it to patients as United Vision
some UHC's aroud here might also be...gak/choke.....Davis Vision
