    Why we do this.

Last week the Nurse at the local Middle School (Junior High) asked my wife if I had anything to help a special needs child with what they called Life Skill's (ie: cleaning their glasses). the next day I stopped by with a case, cleaning cloth and solutions. This all happened last week. today the students teacher walked in with an envelope with a letter from the student. I have blurred the name for obvious reasons but wanted to share.

This is why we do this, for these moments.

My fiance's sister has Autism and he has worked as a unified partner for the Special Olympics for years so when I see things like that, it just melts my heart because THEY have such a big heart.

THAT is one of the reasons I love being in Optical. I have a few special needs children come in and I absolutely love working with them and their parents.

Very nice! We all need reminders about why we do what we do..

Since my fiance does a lot of stuff to help coach and is a unified partner with the Special Olympics, I go to a lot of the events and some of the kids glasses are atrocious. I wish I could talk to the guy in charge, bring some cleaning cloths, spray solution and show them how to properly clean them. Something as simple as that can make their day..

I love making specs for children. Especially first time wearers. I especially remember giving my son his first pr. (+3.00 ou) and seeing them change his whole outlook on the environment around him.

A local childrens hospital (Wolfsons Childrens Hospital) runs a commercial on TV showing a doctor placing a picture on her wall that one of her pat's made for her, she didn,t have room for it so she removed her Ph.D. degree from the wall and placed the picture in it's place. At the end of the commercial is shows the walls of her office covered in children's pictures and in the corner a pile of degrees/certificates on the floor.

    Good on you!

I recently convinced my boss to do exams on some of the kids I mentor through an after school program for disadvantaged kids. We made 3 pair of glasses at no charge and the day they were finished I went to the program location to dispense and adjust. I cried when the smart-aleck 13 year old I fit with his first pair of -2.00 ou put on his glasses, looked outside, and his own eyes started to well up. The power to change a life. All of us are so blessed.

I received thank you notes from all of the children and whenever I have a rough day I look at those notes and remember why I do what I do.
